Ivymount Welcomes Chinese Visitors
Ivymount recently welcomed a group of special education teachers from China as part of the U.S. State Department's International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).
The IVLP program invites emerging leaders to the United States for professional and cultural exchange. Ivymount School was
the participants' first stop in a three week tour of special education schools around the country to learn about curriculum, teaching strategies and support services, as well as technology solutions.
After meeting with Susan Holt, Director of Ivymount School, and Amy Alvord, Ivymount School Education Director, the Chinese delegation toured the school, met program leaders, and observed a number of classes.
"Visits like this provide Ivymount with the opportunity to reach our mission of being leaders of our field," said Holt. "We were pleased to welcome our visitors and share our programs with them."

Ivymount's 5
th Annual
Special Needs Resource Fair
Parents and families from all over the Washington, DC region gathered on Sunday, March 5, 2017 for Ivymount's 5
th
Annual Special Needs Resource Fair, accounting for the over 300 in attendance. The day began with 54 vendors offering information in such areas as financial planning, camps, academic resources, advocacy groups and other services for individuals with spe
cial needs and their families.
"The trip down from New York for the Ivymount Resource Fair was well worth it to meet the informed and engaging families from Ivymount and the surrounding community. We will definitely plan to return next year," commented Dr. Paul Cavanagh, Executive Director, New York Institute of Technology's Vocational Independence Program.
"The Ivymount Special Needs Resource Fair was a great opportunity for us to meet and interact with prospective camp families. Thank you for including us," added Elaine McIntosh, Assistant Director at Camp Kodiak.
Our speaker sessions were well attended and were followed up with helpful question and answer sessions. Special thanks to Amy Alvord, Director of Education at Ivymount; Jennie Kampf, Program Director at Ivymount's Autism Program; Sharon Nickolaus, Transition Specialist at Ivymount; and Monica Adler Werner, Director of Ivymount's Model Asperger Program for their presentations.
"We're pleased that our fair continues to grow each year in attendance as well as vendor lineup," commented Nicole Carr, Director of Communications and Development at Ivymount. "Providing this opportunity for the community to connect with exhibitors and learn about more resources is a real priority for us."

Sibling Night
at Ivymount School is scheduled for Wednesday, March 22, 2017 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
This is an opportunity for siblings of Ivymount students (or their relatives and close family friends age 6 and older) to find out about a typical Ivymount school day.
The evening begins with a social gathering for the siblings with pizza and beverages. Siblings will then have the opportunity to learn experientially about their Ivymount sibling's classroom program and rotate through a sampling of the therapies offered at Ivymount (e.g. OT and Speech).
During the last half hour of the evening, siblings will participate in a small group discussion led by members of the Mental Health Counseling staff. Registration is required.
