Dear Colleagues in Region 1,

Greetings to you as you have begun this Lenten season. While understood as time for deepened reflection and simplicity, for church musicians Lent can be a time of even more work and complexity. All the more reason for support from your ALCM colleagues!

You should know that here in Region 1 we would like to regularly share with you ALCM news particular to our region. It is my hope and the hope of your regional officers to foster connections here in the region, particularly in the times between conferences.

To make such news and connection a reality, we need your input! What is happening in your part of the region you'd like ALCM to know about: member milestones, concerts, hymn festivals, workshops or anything exciting that you might think would benefit the membership. If you have news to share, please send information to me at [email protected] .

I look forward to hearing from you and then, from you to hear from us!

Jennifer Baker-Trinity
Region 1 President

Celebrations!

Congratulations to Jayne Southwick Cool, who is the recipient of LutheranArts Diane and Paul Jacobson Award and has been commissioned to create a hymn text. Composer Deanna Witkowski will use that text in creating both a hymn for congregation and an anthem for choir. LutheranArts will publish the music on its website for broad distribution after March, 2017, honoring the historic 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation.

We celebrate with ALCM member Cheryl Dieter who retired from her 27-1/2 years of service to Trinity Lutheran Church, Valparaiso, Indiana. The congregation celebrated her ministry on February 12.

We also celebrate with ALCM member John Morris as he celebrated his 25th installation anniversary on February 12. John serves as Pastor at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Dublin, Ohio. ALCM member Bishop Robert Rimbo and others gathered for a celebration of this milestone. Congrats, John!
