Last but not least,  Ryuan Johnson (Class of 2018) placed second in the Chicago finals of the August Wilson Monologue Competition yesterday evening, and she will travel to New York to perform on Broadway in the nationals on May 1st . Congratulations, Ryuan!

Creative Writing and Visual Arts students win over 200 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards
We are thrilled to announce the results of this year's Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Our Creative Writing and Visual Arts students received a total of  39 Gold Keys,  the highest honor for the region, and more than 200 awards total. 
Gold Key-winning poem by Chester Wilson III decorates ChiArts' walls
Regional Gold Key winners are currently being considered for national recognition in New York City. National Medalists will be announced on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. 
The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards is the longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for teens in creative writing and visual arts, grades 7-12.  See the full list of winners  here .

Music students represent ChiArts at Lyric Chicago Voices Concert
On February 4, a group of ChiArts vocalists attended the Lyric Opera's Chicago Voices concert featuring performances and unique collaborations by artistic director RenĂ©e Fleming, Shemekia Copeland, Kurt Elling, Lupe Fiasco, The Handsome Family, Jessie Mueller, Matthew Polenzani, John Prine, and Michelle Williams.  ChiArts alumna Noel Price joined the stage with Williams, and the following day, Ms. Fleming coached Class of 2017 vocalist Reever Julian in a special master class.

Dancers advance to finals of the Youth America Grand Prix
Kayla Taylor (senior), Ahmad Hill (senior) and Johnathon Hart (junior) will travel to New York April 11-15 to compete in the international finals of the Youth America Grand Prix , where they will join  1,200 of the world's most promising dancers to receive in-depth mentoring, professional, and performance opportunities. Both Hill and Hart began their ballet training at ChiArts as Novice dancers, showing incredible growth and accomplishment as dancers over their 3-4 years of training.

In a thrilling evening of dance, come enjoy our senior class of dancers debut new works and gifted pieces of choreography from our dance Arts Partners.  The showcase will be the final opportunity to catch most of these students in action and is not to be missed!
