Extra, Extra!
Berrien County Public Defender to Address League March 16, Noon

Editor's Note:  Reports of undelivered email messages regarding LWVBCC news are coming to our attention with increasing frequency.  The information in this special message was originally distributed yesterday March 5 at noon.  If you received THIS message but DID NOT receive a similar communication at noon yesterday, please click here and send a message stating "I didn't get the one sent on Sunday." Such an action will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Don't miss this!  New Berrien County Chief Public Defender Carl Macpherson says he's working harder than he ever has in his life. Macpherson will discuss Berrien County's criminal justice system and how his legal defense team is growing and organizing for the indigent population.  All this during a luncheon set for March 16 at noon at Coaches Restaurant in Stevensville.

According to the Herald-Palladium, Macpherson was hired last fall as the county's first public defender. In late November and early December, he interviewed and added staff so that by Dec. 12 eight lawyers, two legal secretaries, an office manager and an investigator were in place.  Come and hear more about this highly important job function in Berrien County and how it fits with our justice system.

Macpherson will speak to our League at 12pm on Thursday, March 16, at Coaches Restaurant, 2528 Glenlord Rd, Stevensville, MI 49127.  To make a reservation, please call Membership Chair Donna Dutton at 269-469-9763 as soon as possoble. Thank you.
Let's Go See Together:
Tuesday, May 9, 9:00 am
We are announcing a fun and interesting early summer excursion. League members and guests are invited to join in on a short trip to Grand Rapids.  We are planning a visit to the Gerald R. Ford Museum and then the Meijer Gardens.

The date is May 9 at 9:00 o'clock am.  Our bus will depart from a convenient location in St. Joe (exact place TBD.)  All of the arrangements have been made for our group, and you are encouraged to come along.  It is an excellent time to visit the President Gerald Ford Museum and also welcome in the summer season with a visit to beautiful gardens.

The price for transportation and tickets to each venue is $50.00 paid in advance.  Both tours will be self-guided.  Lunch will be at your own cost at the Meijer Gardens.  We will travel by private bus with 21 EXPRESS.

So grab your hat and come along.  Here is a chance for a pleasant day with new and old friends in the League.  We plan to arrive back in St Joe around 5:00 pm.

Please make your check to LWVBCC.  Send it to Treasurer John Ripley @ PO Box 1032, Niles, MI 49120  or Liz Ennis @ 1220 W. Indiana St., New Buffalo, MI  49117  The reservation deadline is April 20!
