TNG in the Media

Last month we shared the first in a series of three commercials which introduced Campbell's Soups new Well Yes! brand, and we are very proud to showcase the next two here, perhaps you have seen them airing. This was a challenging and fun project; we did all of the 3D scanning and modeling of the vegetables, chicken, and legumes using Photogrammetry. To prepare for the hyper-detail and photorealism necessary for the ingredients we stopped at the grocery store every day and got different fruits and vegetables to scan. Man vs. Machine did the beautiful kaleidoscope-type animation and the completed commercials turned out great, what do you think?

Serving VFX Content in 2017

The red carpet has been rolled up once again and awaits Hollywood's best of 2017. What will the world of VFX serve up this year to take our breath away, capture our dreams, and astound our imagination? Three dimensional characters, 3D props, 3D environments and 3D vehicles will surely be a key ingredient in the modern storytelling styles of Hollywood's best.

At TNG Visual Effects we are getting more and more requests for 3D characters. To meet demand we are now offering Photogrammetry as a cutting-edge 3D scanning option. We are semi-mobile with Photogrammetry, depending upon the project. This is in addition to our highly mobile structured-light 3D scanning services, which we can bring directly to you to scan your project  on-site with great results.

For those larger jobs TNG Visual Effects can help with our expert Lidar 3D scanning services, starting with pre-vis and ending with fully developed content.  Large scale buildings (exteriors  and / or interiors), ships, vehicles, airplanes, environments or movie sets are all scanned using Lidar.

Do you have existing scan-data that needs some clean-up? Our 3D modelers are happy to clean it up and so that you can get the most out of it for your project.

You can count on us for great service at a great price, give us a call. We are here to make you look good, and will do our very best to keep you on-time and on-budget.

The Cutting Edge of VR

Virtual Reality is being adapted to the consumer market as shown by Sony's   Virtual Reality device, the PSVR, now having sold 915,000 units, closing in one million within five months of being released. This exceeded their expectations, and many others who presumed that this batch of   VR could be more gimmick than something that stays. Sony's been doing a good job of continually adding features to the PSVR until such as being able to watch 3D Blue Ray movies on the headset.

It's been said the heftiness and weight of the   Virtual Reality headsets are too cumbersome, and much like many other forms of technology, in time it'll be smaller, more lightweight, and less pervasive. Plenty of people will wait until that time comes, but many of us also just like to stand there on the bleeding edge of technology and simply embrace the waves of software and patch updates to fully experience it as soon as it comes out, and to be able to debate it in the current atmosphere of entertainment and visual effects.

The somewhat slow speed of the game development is perhaps the most jarring issues currently. As with any new hardware, it takes time to develop stable software, and to use the full potential of the device. And to uphold the fidelity of high quality graphics in Virtual Reality, we commend utilizing 3D scanned assets for your projects. Benefits of using 3D scans include: higher accuracy to real-world counterparts, pore detail on head scans, intricate detail on clothing including all the seams, pockets, and collars at high quality. There's also so much you can save by having a company 3D scan some characters, objects, or environments, and preparing those assets for your projects to work within tight deadlines, and to have data not just ready, but surfaced and retopologized to your liking with texture maps to any size along with the normal map, displacement map, and the evenly lit diffuse map.

Lidar for Peace of Mind

There's a shiver that runs down the spine of a producer when a complex set or exterior is about to be torn down. You just know that once it's gone you'll need it for one more shot or in post production. One way to fail-safe your project is to 3D scan important sets and exteriors with Lidar before they disappear for good. The Lidar scan data can simply be stored on disc and held aside  as a measure of insurance. Lidar is known for its ability to capture large scale subjects and environments with great detail for film and digital worlds.

Lidar's strength is its ability to capture large subjects with great detail. Another use for Lidar scanning would be to capture the bottom exterior level of a building with the intent of building new facades for the upper levels.

Charger
Lidar scanning has also been used extensively as a pre-vis tool to plan and map complicated movement and action within a specific area.

Lidar continues to be indispensable part of our 3D scanning solutions for film, television and now virtual reality . Call us to see if it's right for your current project.
