Collinsville City Manager Pam Polk Appointed to the District 6 Board of Directors' Seat
|
|
Collinsville City Manager Pam Polk was appointed to the Oklahoma Municipal League (OML) Board of Directors during their March 1st meeting to be the District 6 representative. Polk has been with the City of Collinsville since 2005 but her dedication to municipal government goes back more than 20 years. The board felt her well qualified to fill the seat and that she would make an excellent representative for District 6 cities and towns. The board and OML staff are looking forward to working with City Manager Polk.

Registration Available At the Door for March 10 Workshop and Learn What Placemaking Is and How It Can Improve Your City or Town
|
The University of Oklahoma Institute for Quality Communities and the Oklahoma Municipal League are hosting a full day workshop to be held at the Norman Campus on March 10th (lunch and convenient parking will be provided at no additional charge). The workshop will focus on placemaking; evaluating and improving public spaces. Information on how to obtain grant assistance on these projects will also be provided. Communities across the state have worked with OU Institute for Quality Communities in a wide range of projects to benefit their city or town. Here are some examples of Placemaking with Photos.
Placemaking is a process of creating quality public spaces based on local assets, culture, and preferences. This workshop will demonstrate the connection between placemaking and community development goals, share success stories from Oklahoma communities, and show how to evaluate public spaces. OML will be giving grants to assist our member cities with placemaking projects. More information will be announced at this event

Hosted by OML and the Mayors Council of Oklahoma, you will have the opportunity to network with other municipal officials, hear the latest information on legislative issues, visit with your legislative representatives about municipal issues and meet the student winners of the "If I Were Mayor" essay contest. Throughout the year OML provides an intensive educational program specifically tailored for newly elected
and appointed
officials as well as experienced officials who want to keep up-to-date on municipal issues. An officer is defined in 11 O.S. Section 1-102

Water and Environmental Summit Held
|
The 2017 Oklahoma Municipal League (OML) and Oklahoma Municipal Utility Providers (OMUP) Water and Environmental Summit was held February 24th. Over 50 municipal officials and stakeholders from across the state gathered at the Rose State College Education and Training Center for OML/OMUP's Annual Water and Environment Summit. Woodward's City Manager, Alan Riffel and the Oklahoma Municipal Utility Providers (OMUP) Chair facilitated the meeting that began with a presentation by Deputy Secretary of Energy and Environment, Tyler Powell who provided an update on legislative issues.

Municipal Clerks & Treasurers Training Takes Place in El Reno
|
On March 3
rd
in El Reno OML hosted its Municipal Clerks and Treasurers (MC&T) training. This workshop had over 70 attendees from various municipalities in Oklahoma. During this training the attendees learned about municipal sales tax and cash handling. This workshop fulfills state requirements for the MC&T certification program, as well as 4 hours of Certified Municipal Officials (CMO) credit.
