" Lent stimulates us to let the Word of God penetrate our life and in this way to know the fundamental truth:
who we are, where we come from, where we must go, what path we must take in life
.
- Pope Benedict XVI
March 1st, 2017
From Mrs. Rowley

It is wonderful to be back! Please know that I lit a candle for the St. Ambrose community in the Basilica di San Clemente in Rome. This is a 12
th century church, built upon a 4 th century church, built on a 1 st century Roman street!

It is hard to believe that Lent is here already. Our school is preparing for the coming of Easter in different ways. Please join us on Fridays during the month of March for Stations of the Cross. This will be weekly at 2:30pm. Also, please note that all pizza during Lent will be cheese pizza, in observance of meatless Fridays.

Next week our 8 th grade class will join with other 8 th graders around the diocese in the annual Vocations Mass, celebrated by Bishop Michael Burbidge. They are also holding weekly bake sales in March to supplement funds for their graduation field trip.

Our annual gala is coming up on April 1. Our gala committee has been working very hard to put together a wonderful evening, themed "A Knight Around the World." We have wonderful live and silent auction items. Please plan to join us for an evening on international, food, fun, and friendship.

Registration is well under way, and classes are filling up. We have limited openings in our pre-school program. Please help spread the word about our wonderful school where "You are known; you are loved," St. Ambrose.

Almighty and Everlasting God, You have given the human race Jesus Christ our Savior as a model of humility. He fulfilled Your Will by becoming Man And giving His life on the Cross. Help us to bear witness to You By following His example of suffering and make us worthy to share in His Resurrection.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son. Amen.

Spring Track & Cross Country

cartoon-sneakers.jpg
It is the time of year again where we begin our JCYO spring track practice.  Vann Salinger, Maryellen DeWolfe and I are the coaches with Angela Grant assisting for track & field and cross country.  We would like to invite your children to join the team for some conditioning, competition and fun.

Practices will begin on March 7th, are held on Tuesdays directly after school and run until 4:45pm and, starting something new, on Saturday mornings 9:30-11:00am at Woodson High School, 9525 Main Street, Fairfax, VA 22031.  I am also open to an additional weekday or a change in the days.  The workouts may be challenging initially, but if your child enjoys running, he / she will excel.  The forms to sign up are located on the NVJCYO website.  Using the following link:   http://new.nvjcyo.org/  select "Information" from the top of the page and then "Forms".

There is a single track meet scheduled for the spring for the 3-4, 5-6, and 7-8 grade athletes.  The Spring CYO meet will go as follows:  Saturday May 6th Morning Session;  7th and 8th grades: Saturday May 6th Afternoon session; 3rd and 4th grades . Sunday May 7th Afternoon session:  5th and 6th grades.

Thank you, feel free to contact us at anytime with questions and/or suggestions, and we look forward to hearing from you.
Girls Volleyball

Girls Volleyball for grades 3-8 is part of the St. Ambrose and NVJCYO sports offerings and it is the time of year where we begin sign-ups.  We would like to invite you and your children to join the team for some conditioning, competition and fun.  The leagues comprise of grades 3/4 ; 5/6 and 7/8 and St. Ambrose will participate in all of them if there is sufficient interest.  The girls have thoroughly enjoyed playing the past two years and we would very much like to continue the offering.

We lost a few of our coaches this year so we are also requesting volunteers to coach and attend the games.  Generally speaking, we have two coaches per team and as many parents as would like to assist with practices/scrimmages.   If you are available to provide this worthwhile service, please let me know by emailing Mani Tiwari at [email protected].

The season officially begins on April 1st so we would ideally like to start practices the week of March 20th.  Practice schedules will be determined based on coach and player availability and coach schedules.  The first game should be around the weekend of April 9th.  For detailed game information, please use the following link:   http://new.nvjcyo.org/  and to locate the forms, select "Information" from the top of the page and then "Forms".

We look forward to your participation and enjoyment of this event and thank you in advance for your assistance.  Please feel free to contact me via email or telephone to volunteer, for additional information or should you have any suggestions or questions.

Tuition Accounts for 2017/2018

Starting today, March 1st, you will be able to set-up your tuition account for 2017/2018.  Please go to www.factsmgt.com to begin the process. If you already have an account with FACTS for the Grant and Aid you should use the same log- in. Please note, if you have a child in Preschool AND elementary school you should sign up for two different plans, but you will only incur the one-time fee once, not for each plan. Preschool plans are paid August-May and Elementary plans are paid July-April. f you have any questions regarding your account you should contact FACTS at (866) 441-4637.

There is a clarification to both the Tuition and Fees schedule and Financial Agreement. On both, it states there is no FACTS Display fee if you pay your tuition in full by July 10/20. However, since those forms went home in early February we have decided to add an added feature to our FACTS Tuition account that will allow us to manually bill the academic fees at the various dates throughout the year. With that added feature all families will incur a fee, depending on which payment plan they choose. Both pay in full and installment plans will incur a one time $20 fee from FACTS. Families that choose the 10 month payment plan will incur a one time $50 fee from FACTS.

In addition to the academic fees, Incidental billing will allow us to bill other various collections that come up through out the year. For example, field trips. Most field trips are 100% covered by our PTO. However, some big trips like Gettysburg and Philadelphia incur higher costs. Usually we ask families to pay a small amount to defray the extra costs. With Incidental billing we will be able to add a specific amount to all students in that particular grade. Of course you will be notified well in advance and depending on how you set up your account, you will pay via auto-debit or pay online, phone or mail in payment. You will also receive an invoice in advance from FACTS.

Our desire is to create an efficient and streamlined process that not only allows us to track all financials, but is completely transparent to you as well.

Club Updates
Updates from STEM Club

Last week our Wednesday STEM Club finished their bridge building. Cultivating teamwork is tough (even in the workplace!) but the kids did great and the bridges look robust. We will be testing our bridges to design load this week (5 pounds) as well as max failure load. Look for our results next week!

Our K-1 st STEM Club on Thursday had a free exploration day. The kids had a selection of PVC pipe and connectors and were able to explore and build to their hearts content. There was a wonderful selection of both 2D and 3D structures! We also had outstanding teamwork.
