President's Column
By Kenneth F. Kostura, P.E., M.ASCE

The days are now getting longer and Ground Hog Day is upon us.  I am ready for the warmer weather to get here.

Our January Section Meeting was a luncheon held at Greystone in downtown Akron.   Jason Segedy, the City of Akron Planning Director, was our speaker.  He talked about the City's plans and direction for development, not only in the downtown, but throughout the City.  Thanks to Mr. Segedy for his interesting and relevant comments. And thanks to our Technical Activities Committee for setting up another very well attended meeting.

This month, we celebrate Engineers Week.  Founded in 1951, E-Week is dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce by increasing understanding of and interest in engineering and technology careers.  We hope to see everyone at one or both of the area E-week banquets to show support for our profession.  Details can be found below.

It is time again to consider a sponsorship of our Section for the new calendar year.  We are offering newsletter and meeting sponsorships. Both types support our scholarship fund.  The meeting sponsorships also help to reduce the cost of meetings for our members and provide additional advertising opportunities.  See the newsletter below for details.

Please watch your email for news and updates from your Akron-Canton Section.  If you have an interest in getting involved on one of our committees, please contact any of our Board Members.  We welcome your participation.

Regards,

Kenneth F. Kostura
Akron-Canton Section President
