Clifton community shows support for immigrants, refugees and Muslims with prayerful march

Over 75 people from the community joined interfaith clergy and community leaders for a "March and Prayer Service in support of Immigrants, Refugees and Muslims" sponsored by St. Peter's Church in Clifton on February 19, 2017.

The peaceful gathering allowed members of the community to express their support for immigrants, refugees and Muslims living in Clifton, and to offer prayers for the creation of a welcoming community. Read more.

Lenten Meditations
Writers sought for Lenten email meditations

Lenten email meditations started today and will continue through and including Holy Saturday, April 15.

As in Advent, meditations are being produced under the oversight of the Empowering People Action Team of Diocesan Council, and volunteers are being sought to write them. To sign up to write a meditation, please email meditations@dionewark.org.

Last Saturday, 20 women gathered for the re-birthing of the diocesan "Women's Commission." We agreed that we need to find a name which more accurately describes who we are. We see ourselves as women of faith wanting to focus on action and be a resource on a variety of issues, while also focusing on self-care and finding the balance of work, family, faith and the issues we care about.

Bishop Beckwith calls for the election of the next bishop

Yesterday Bishop Beckwith announced that he is calling for the election of the next Bishop of Newark. The search and call of a bishop takes 18 months; the Presiding Bishop's office has set a date of September 22, 2018 for the consecration of the 11th Bishop of Newark. Find out more.

This morning, the Standing Committee sent a message about the next steps in this process.

Names for ECW Book of Remembrance due April 14

The Book of Remembrance is a memorial book of the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) in which the names of deceased women in the diocese are inscribed. All baptized women of the Episcopal Church are eligible to be remembered in this way. The names added to the Book of Remembrance will be read at the Honoring Women Luncheon. Go to the submission form and instructions.

New deadline for Ward J. Herbert Fund applications

In order to better facilitate disbursement of checks for grants prior to the summer break, Diocesan Council has moved the Ward J. Herbert Grant application deadline for the 2nd cycle (late spring funding) to April 15. Because that date falls on a weekend this year, applications may submitted before 12 noon on Monday, April 17. Webinar on welcoming refugees slated for March 8

Episcopal Migration Ministries is hosting a one-hour free webinar, Love in Action: Episcopal Churches Welcome Refugees, on Wednesday, March 8 at 4 PM Eastern.

Participants will learn about community efforts born out of Episcopal congregations to create a welcoming community for refugees and immigrants. Three faith communities will share stories about their local community and interfaith initiatives to create a ministry of welcome. Find out more.
