Thursday Lecture

Theresa Holleran: The Shadow Dance of the Feminine and Masculine

March 9, 2017

The Shadow Dance of the Feminine and Masculine

"Except for the point, the still point, there would be no dance,
and there is only the dance."
- T.S. Eliot

Carl Jung believed that the culmination of the Soul's journey is the integration of opposites within the psyche: feminine/masculine; conscious/unconscious; divine/human. Each of us, regardless of our gender identity or sexual preference, must grapple with the inner dance of Feminine and Masculine energies in our search for wholeness and the well-lived life.

This movement from opposition to paradox is no easy task. The journey is often littered with inner and outer conflicts, positive and negative projections, longings, and disappointments, as we find our way out of the madness, confusion, and darkness of opposing values, desires, ideals and possibilities, into the evolutionary leap of the Sacred Inner Marriage.

Join us for an evening of myth, dreaming, storytelling, poetry, lecture and dialogue as we explore the creative, transformative, and visionary potential of the Conscious Feminine and Masculine within each of us. We will investigate how the Feminine and Masculine archetypes, in both their positive and negative aspects, inform our sense of meaning, purpose and wholeness, the quality of our relationships, and our ability to tend to the "soul of the world" in the face of seemingly insurmountable global dilemmas.

Read an interview with Theresa here to learn more about this important topic.

Theresa Holleran L.C.S.W is a Depth Psychotherapist, teacher, and facilitator with over 40 years experience. She has taught graduate courses in Transpersonal Psychology, Eco-psychology, and Process Work, and has co-created national and in ternational retreats and sacred journeys in both urban and wilderness settings on themes of embodied healing and transformation, suffering, wisdom and resilience, and the Sacred Inner Marriage. She currently works with individuals, relationships, groups and communities in her private group practice at Mountain Lotus Counseling in Salt Lake City. Her work is predicated on knowing that each person has an inherent destiny that can be revealed through the exploration of the unconscious and its effects on consciousness and that personal individuation is directly tied to the fate of our planet.

Personal Myth and the Quest for Meaning - Dr. Dennis P. Slattery
Embodied Imagination Dream Work Training - Robert Bosnak
Care of the Soul in Daily Life - Thomas Moore

Four week course begins March 14, 2017

"Thus it is that I have now undertaken, in my eighty-third year, to tell my personal myth. I can only make direct statements, only 'tell stories.' Whether or not the stores are 'true' is not the problem. The only question is whether what I tell is my fable, my truth."

- C.G. Jung, Memories, Dreams, Reflections, pp. 3-4.

Overview: Jung himself saw it as "the task of tasks" for anyone of us. Not knowing some of the contours of our personal mythology leaves us open to all forms of propaganda, abuse and misdirection, especially when we unknowingly or knowingly, begin to live out another's personal myth, leaving our own gasping at the side of road, unacknowledged and unlived.

Read a great blog by Dennis on this topic HERE.

Presenter: Dennis Patrick Slattery, Ph.D. is Core Faculty, Mythological Studies Program at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Carpinteria, California, where he holds the rank of Distinguished Professor. He is the author, co-author, editor or co-editor of 25 volumes, including six volumes of poetry and one novel. His recent books include: Bridge-Work: Essays on Mythology, Literature, and Psychology (2015), Creases in Culture: Essays Toward a Poetics of Depth (2015) and Our Daily Breach: Exploring Your Personal Myth Through Herman Melville's Moby-Dick (2016). He offers Riting Personal Myth Retreats throughout the United States, in Canada, Europe and Ireland.

One Year Certification Training Program

This year long course in Care of the Soul is an introduction to the work of Thomas Moore and especially about living a life with soul and spirit. It steers a middle course between study and practical living. It would be useful for people wanting to live more deeply and go beyond the surface ideas of contemporary psychology and spirituality and for therapists, counselors, medical professionals and teachers looking for a deeper approach to their work.

Each participant can take the course in his or her own direction. Therapists could focus on bringing soul into their practice, and anyone can make the course a more personal exploration. Still, this is an introductory course, a solid preparation for more focused courses to follow.

More details HERE.

Dates: June / Oct / March / June

Location: Jaffrey, New Hampshire

Cost: $4250, early bird discount $3900 before March 15 (payment in installments possible) Cost includes a certification.

When Theresa Holleran was in her early thirties, she read the Pregnant Virgin: A Process of Psychological Transformation, and discovered the work of Jungian Analyst, Marion Woodman. Her dream world and creativity was profoundly enlivened with new images and inspirations. In her twenties she had been an activist in the Women's Movement, and had awakened to the possibility of living her own free life, despite the gender conditioning she received from the nuns during her Catholic education. But she knew intuitively there was something more to this path of authenticity. Marion's work illuminated the "Sacred Inner Marriage"- the realization that every man and woman, regardless of gender identity or sexual preference, could discover and fully live the Conscious Feminine and Masculine energies. This is a revelation that has framed her inner work and her clinical practice and teaching for over 30 years.
