Today's Gospel reminds us that as we enter the season of Lent, we are called to an increase in prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

Jesus urged his followers to do these things in a sincere and humble way, not intending to draw attention to themselves.

How would that message be delivered to me today?

I think that Jesus would experience a bit of pushback in this age of selfies, Instagrams and tweets. While the "rewards" that we receive in this culture of instant everything fade as quickly as they are posted, I am reminded that God, Who remembers all that we do with a sincere heart, promises us that the reward that we will receive from Him is far better than anything that we can even imagine.

I appreciate this time of year to be reminded that the Creator of everything visible and invisible loves me with an everlasting and unconditional love, the kind of love that never fades.
