Kansas State Polytechnic celebrates national TRiO month
February is designated National TRiO Month and the Polytechnic Campus has been in the mood to celebrate!
Student Support Services and Upward Bound - two programs that help low-income and first generation students enter college and earn a degree - have provided the campus with various activities throughout the month to bring awareness to and honor TRiO.
Along with continuing the tradition of Donut Friday, the campus held its annual Chili Cook-off and collected donations, such as clothing and hygiene items, to distribute to local organization Saint Francis. There was also a display just outside of the library in the Tech Center lobby that showcased previous students helped by SSS and UB.
In addition to assisting Saint Francis with its physical needs, juniors and seniors from the organization were invited to the Kansas State Polytechnic Jr/Sr Day to learn more about our programs.
Student Support Services and Upward Bound hopes the campus had fun with the various events and looks forward to answering any questions about the assistance they provide. SSS is located in the College Center, room 208, and UB is housed in the Welcome Center, suite 119.

Nominate a deserving Wildcat for the campus Recognition Awards
Do you know an inspiring student who is a great campus leader? Do you have an encouraging professor that challenges you to always do your best? Do you work with a diligent staff member?
Nominate these deserving Wildcats for the Kansas State Polytechnic Recognition Awards. Honor a student, faculty member, or staff member through nomination in a variety of different awards.
Nomination packets will be available in the library, the Student Life Center, residence hall front desks, the Aero front desk, and in College Center 208.
Nominations are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 17. Late nominations will not be accepted. Submit your nomination by email to [email protected] or drop off a nomination packet to the Outreach Center between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The awards will be presented during the annual SGA Awards Ceremony on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 6 p.m. All nominees and nominators will be invited to attend the dinner free of charge.

Wildcat Warrior 5K set for April 22, proceeds benefit fallen soldier's memorial
 The Wildcat Warriors have set the date for their annual 5K race and are hoping to help a fallen soldier's memorial with the proceeds.
The student group, which supports the United States Air Force and is based on the Manhattan Campus, is hosting the Wildcat Warrior 5K on April 22 with on-site registration beginning at 8 a.m. and the race starting at 9 a.m.
The proceeds from the event will go to improving
Captain William Grimm's memorial. Captain Grimm served as a Navigator in the Air Force and was the only K-State alumnus killed in action during Operation Desert Storm.
Captain Grimm's current memorial is a plaque laid in the ground next to an oak tree, making it hard to see and susceptible to damage from lawnmowers. The 5K race will help raise funds to improve this memorial, and will greatly honor a distinguished alumnus who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Kansas State Polytechnic Jr/Sr Day draws more than 60 prospective students to campus
Kansas State Polytechnic was filled with high school students, parents and counselors last week interested in what the campus and its programs have to offer.
During annual Jr/Sr Day on Feb. 24, more than 60 students from across the state and one from Illinois, filled the College Center to explore the process of becoming a Wildcat. The half-day event covered what "polytechnic" means and how faculty use hands-on learning in and out of the classroom; campus amenities and events; applying for admission to Kansas State Polytechnic; and available scholarships and other financial aids.
Students also broke off into groups according to the program they were interested in and participated in an interactive activity with faculty and staff. During lunch, attendees listened to five current students speak about their experiences and life on the Polytechnic Campus. A tour of the residence halls and the Student Life Center was offered at the end of the day.
The next opportunity to bring prospective students on campus will be during Open House on April 1 where a "VIP Experience" has been set up for them.

New professional pilot students from Saudi Arabia visit Kansas State Polytechnic
 Welcome to the Polytechnic Campus!
Students from Saudi Arabia planning to enroll in the professional pilot program visited their future home last week. The students arrived on Feb. 23 and toured the campus, spoke with faculty, staff and their soon-to-be classmates, and explored the fleet.
The incoming professional pilot students will be starting intermittently throughout the summer, fall and next spring semesters.

AVIATION students - The Wichita Aero Club is offering two scholarships to students majoring in aviation. One scholarship is $5,000.

Engineering Scholarships:
ENGINEERING and COMPUTER SCIENCE students - Cargill is offering scholarships in the amount of $2500. Must be in your freshman or sophomore year.
MECHANICA
L and ELECTRICAL engineering students - The Raymond G. Alvine scholarship is a $5,000 scholarship available to engineering students with a 3.0 or higher GPA. DEADLINE: March 31.

ENGINEERING students - Patti Johnson Wilson Foundation scholarship is available to engineering students, with a minimum 3.5 GPA. Awards range from $3,000 to $5,000. Only students from seven universities are eligible to apply (K-State is one of those seven).

Study Abroad Scholarships:
Ever think of studying abroad but don't think you can afford it? Check into the Gilman scholarship. K-State Polytechnic has had students study abroad with the assistance of this scholarship. The deadline is March 7 for Summer or Fall programs abroad, and October 2 for Spring programs abroad.

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund offers scholarships to students of Hispanic heritage. Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Must be enrolled at full-time. Permanent legal residents and DACA students are eligible to apply along with U.S. citizens. DEADLINE: March 30.
