'The Ocean Can Be Yours' | Works by Four Iranian Artists | Afsoon | Ghalamdar | Jason Noushin | Katayoun Rouhi
8 February to 29 April, 2017
If the dichotomy between what is visible and what is hidden grounds Iranian philosophical thought, then the convergence of visual art and poetry can only be one of its strongest vehicles. The Ocean Can Be Yours, an exhibition by Gerald Moore Gallery at Eltham College,
curated by Janet Rady,
presents Persian visual art and linguistic practices via the interpretation of international poetry through an Iranian lens. Showcasing works by Afsoon, Ghalamdar, Jason Noushin and Katayoun Rouhi, each artist explores the tradition rooted in their shared Iranian heritage as a launch platform for their diverse practices spanning performance and Calligraffiti to drawing and allegorical painting.

Edinburgh Iranian Festival
This year's festival will commence with films at the Filmhouse Cinema, who have been supporting us since our very first festival back in 2009. One of our particular highlights is a classical music concert at the Assembly Hall in collaboration with Iranian soprano Darya Dadvar and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Etel Adnan | Gerhard Richter
19 JANUARY - 13 MAY, 2017
The exhibition initiates a conversation between two masters of contemporary painting, from the vastly different backgrounds of Beirut and Germany. Both artists continue to challenge the concept of working in a single style or media, translating their explosive color abstractions and painting processes to canvas, ceramic, glass, and tapestry.

Tell me the story of all these things. Beginning wherever you wish, tell even us.
14 JANUARY - 18 March, 2017
Tell me the story of all these things. Beginning wherever you wish, tell even us. is the inaugural exhibition of the Autohistorias program, unfolding in 2017 across Bétonsalon and
Villa Vassilieff. The exhibition borrows its title from Dictée,
an experimental autobiographical novel written by
Theresa Hak Kyung Cha in 1982.
In this text, the Korean artist evoked her experience
of exile. She used different languages, combining
text and image in a variety of narrative registers,
telling the story of women associated with the
Nine Muses of Greek mythology.

WHAT'S INSPIRING THIS MONTH
A hypnotic video of a rare art form
Lithography nearly died out in the 1960s - but it's seen a recent resurgence. Adam Proctor has filmed two printers going through the process in Berlin.
Sliding, etching, scraping and sanding: the muffled sound of a roller; the drip of acid on limestone; the clunk as the stone is pushed into place. Hypnotic in its measured pace and minimal soundtrack, a new video reveals a technique that goes back more than two centuries. Sarah Dudley and Ulli Kühle are lithographers, drawing on stone in layers of colour, etching with nitric acid, rolling on ink and printing onto acid-free cotton rag paper.
