New utility rates took effect on January 1
As part of the 2017 rate bylaw that was passed at the December 12, 2016 regular meeting of council, a three per cent increase has been applied to Town of High River utility rates effective January 1, 2017.
This increase is necessary as the Town continues to work towards reaching full cost recovery on delivering water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, solid waste and recycling services to residents and businesses.
Full cost recovery ensures that utility rate revenue covers one hundred per cent of the annual operating costs, as well as future capital replacement costs of delivering these services.
Utility bills are mailed on a bi-monthly basis and residents will be receiving their bills for January and February in early March.
An average residential customer that uses 28 cubic metres of water per month will see their bi-monthly utility bill increase by approximately $4.50 per month.
An average commercial customer that uses 100 cubic metres of water per month will see their bi-monthly utility bill increase by approximately $13.50 per month.
Providing financially and environmentally sustainable services is a priority for the Town. Residents and businesses are encouraged to monitor their water consumption and look for ways to reduce their usage.
Simple ways to reduce water consumption could include using your water metre to check for leaks, installing low-flow shower heads and faucets, or taking advantage of the Town's
toilet rebate program.
