Ongoing Events and Entertainment
Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every  Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7pm. Admission  is $5 on Tuesday and $6 on Saturday. Line Dancing classes are also offered on Monday nights beginning at 6pm. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Local blue grass and old time musicians jam each Monday, 2 blocks north of the Courthouse at the Crouse House in Crouse Park, beginning at 6pm. Come and play or just listen. No charge, but a donation is appreciated. 336-372-5473

Barn Quilt Trails 

Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Be sure to visit when planning a trip this Spring or Summer. Open Thursday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm. There's never an admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

Veterans' Morning Coffee & Breakfast
 at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal full breakfast including, biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, and coffee every Wednesday from 8:30-11am. All veterans are invited to attend.  Click to learn more .
 
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10am-2pm, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 Us Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Tickets for the 8th Annual Empty Bowls are available for sale now at the Chamber of Commerce. Each ticket is $30 a piece and all proceeds go to the Children's Feeding Program.

The Alleghany County Library is sending out a call to all teens to help us celebrate Teen Tech Week! 
Get Connected during Teen Tech Week 2017 with Alleghany County Library's first ever Digital Scavenger Hunt.  Here's your opportunity to explore and discover all of the digital resources our library has to offer!
Here's how it works:


Beginning Monday, March 6th, pick up a Digital Scavenger Hunt form at the Circulation Desk.
Find every item on the list. Be sure to record your answers on the form.
Turn in your completed Digital Scavenger Hunt by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 31st, 2017 to be entered into a drawing for a FREE gift card.

  • Gunsmithing II: starting on Monday, March 6th- May 1st 2017. Classes are Monday evenings from 5:30-8:30 pm.  The cost of the class is $70.
  • Independent Auto Dealer Recertification: Tuesday, March 7th, 2017 from 9:00-4:00 pm.  The cost of the class is $70.
  • Spanish in the Workplace: starting on Wednesday March 22nd-May 10th 2017.  Classes are Wednesday evenings from 5:30-8:30 pm.  The cost of the class is $70.
  • Photoshop: starts on Tuesday, March 14th-May 2nd 2017.  Classes are each Tuesday night from 6:00-9:00 pm.  The cost of the class is $70.

Weekly Rotary Program

The Club meets every  Thursday at 7 am  in the 
Alleghany Memorial Hospital Solarium for a buffet breakfast and program. Visitors are welcome.

Alleghany Jubilee Happenings!
Join us for the  Hillbilly Hoedown  with  Rise and Shine Band  every Tuesday night. Admission $5 on Tuesday, $6 on Saturday, age 12 and under free.    
Hours are 7-10 pm unless otherwise noted. All ages welcome.

Baywood Boy's BBQ & Catering

Blood Drive 

The Sparta Lions Club will be sponsoring a Red Cross Blood drive on Monday, March 27, from 9:30 AM until 2:00 PM. The blood drive will be l ocated at the Sparta United Methodist Church.
This is for the Birds!
Bring you binoculars and join a Ranger to see what we can on this short, and easy hike along the river on Wednesday, March 15, at 2 PM. It is recommended to wear sturdy shoes, dress according to the weather for the day and bring water.

Flight of the American Woodcock

Witness the amazing courtship flight of the American Woodcock. Also learn about its life history, and some cool facts about this unique woodland shore bird that is rarely seen. Meet at New River State Park's Visitor Center at Hwy. 221 access for a short slide show and then the main attraction. Program starts at 7:00 pm. Be prepared to spend at least 20 minutes outside in the cold air and dark skies.

100 Mile Challenge 

Need to add a few miles to your log? Join
 a State
Ranger at the visitor center off of Highway 221 in the New River State Park for a 2.4 mile hike. It is recommended to where sturdy shoes, and bring a water bottle.
