PLA threats hit record increase!
Dear  ,

We told you this was going to be quite a year with regards to Project Labor Agreement (PLA) activity. Last week we had two PLA fights and this week there are FIVE!

Educational

Los Angeles Community College District :   Not content with their previous experiences under PLAs  the  Board of Trustees  at LACCD decided that their latest construction bond measure also needed to be  placed under a PLA  . As we often say, we can fight PLAs but what we cannot fight is urban corruption.

Santa Clara Unified School District : Last week CFEC's Eric Christen and Associated Builders and Contractors of North California's Nicole Goehring spoke to the SCUSD Board of Trustees about the issue of PLAs. This issue has come up previously over the past two years only to see the issue go away. Well it appears that will remain the case as the  agenda item  was pulled from consideration at the beginning of the meeting. For now the District's $419 million Measure H construction bond stays free to open competition!

Martinez Unified School District:  On March 13th the Board of Trustees at MUSD held a discussion on PLAs. The District is spending the last of it monies from their $49 million Measure K bond, passed in 2010. Apparently unions want more of it. Please contact the Board today and let your feelings be known on this issue. They can be reached at:

Southwestern Community College : Speaking of urban corruption, this District is a  poster child  for it. Today the Board of Trustees   will be voting to have their current PLA cover their recently approved bond measure.  You can contact the board about this issue at:

President  Tim Nader

Santa Rosa Junior College : Today CFEC's Eric Christen and other anti-PLA allies will be presenting  at a study session  being held by the  Board of Trustees  at Santa Rosa Junior College. We have helped to keep SRJC PLA-free for almost 15 years now and we aim to keep that streak going on their  Measure H , a $410 million construction bond approved in November of 2014. The issue is already being covered by local media as you can see  here . Please contact the Trustees about your feelings on PLAs:

College of MarinAfter hearing CFEC's Eric Christen two weeks ago give the reasons why a PLA is not in the best interest of the College during a study session, the Board of Trustees tonight will be voting to negotiate a PLA  for all Measure B, their $265 million bond measure approved in November of last year. Please contact the Trustees today!

State Center Community CollegeOn Friday, March 17th, PLA opponents will be presenting against PLAs at the State Center Community College District's "PLA Study Session". We are asking all area contractors to attend this important meeting. We will be meeting beforehand at  11:30am  for lunch and strategizing Max's Bistro. Please RSVP if you can join us!  See you  Friday !
