Recently Visit Philly was awarded a $2 million grant from The Pew Charitable Trusts over two years to expand its work.

What's New?

ESI is thrilled to announce that James MidkiffJing Liu and Peiyong Yu have joined the firm as our newest Research Analysts. Mr. Midkiff, Ms. Liu and Mr. Yu  specialize in spatial analysis, quantitative analysis, data visualization, transportation planning, and economic analysis.

James Midkiff

Prior to ESI, James graduated from George Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs and Economics with a minor in Spanish.  He completed internships at the Organization of American States where he worked often exclusively in Spanish and at the National Security Archive where he appealed U.S. federal government rejections to Freedom of Information Act requests.

Jing Liu

Prior to joining ESI, Jing received her Master's in City Planning and Urban Spatial Analytics from the University of Pennsylvania. Her thesis GIS project aimed at improving the traditional travel demand forecasting model by incorporating spatial variables and spatial regression concept. Her second year studio was NY-NJ Crossrail Studio, whose focus was on applying lessons from London's Crossrail project to New York's fragmented and capacity-constrained regional rail network in order to maintain and expand current infrastructure, and bolster region-wide economic growth. 

Peiyong Yu

Peiyong has worked at the Tongji Urban Planning and Design Institute in Shanghai, China as a transportation planner. His responsibilities focused on public transit planning, regional highway and railway system planning, and traffic demand modeling. He also interned with the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design in Beijing. He assisted in population projects and economic analysis for various planning projects.

ESI Seeks Research Intern

ESI is currently seeking a Research Intern  with the ability to thrive in a collaborative, project-oriented setting, to create and manipulate spreadsheets for economic and fiscal modeling , format reports and spreadsheets, proof and edit reports, prepare materials for presentations, conduct research on economic and fiscal issues, proof and edit reports, prepare materials for presentations, and write up research findings .

A basic working knowledge of STATA is a plus as well as working with large data sets, knowledge in Microsoft Office applications, particularly in Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, and good writing and editing skills.
