1918 Society Call with Amb. Jeffrey

WACA is delighted to present an exclusive conference call for members of the 1918 Society:
Ambassador James F. Jeffrey
will brief participants this Thursday, March 16, at 2:00-2:30 PM ET on the topic of "Charting America's Way Forward in the Middle East."
Ambassador Jeffrey is the Philip Solondz Distinguished Fellow at The Washington Institute, where he focuses on U.S. diplomatic and military strategy in the Middle East, with emphasis on Turkey, Iraq, and Iran. In addition to his service as ambassador in Ankara and Baghdad, he served as assistant to the president and deputy national security advisor in the George W. Bush administration (

Make Council Voices Heard: New WACA Website

The
World Affairs Councils of America will launch our new website in the coming months. As we begin this process we invite Council CEO's and experienced staff to weigh-in.
The new WACA site aims to do a much better job of highlighting Council events and programs, providing useful tools for member organizations, and strengthening Council network cohesion and visibility.

KNOW NOW Conference Call: The U.S., Japan and Asia
|
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson visits East Asian capitals this week, following Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's golf summit with President Donald Trump, and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis' trip to Japan and South Korea in February. WACA presents a KNOW NOW briefing by Jim Schoff, senior fellow in the Asia Program at Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, on the U.S.-Japan alliance, North Korea's nuclear threat, and security and economic challenges from China and the region.
James L. Schoff, senior fellow at Carnegie Endowment, focuses his research on U.S.-Japan relations and regional engagement, Japanese politics and security, and the private sector's role in Japanese policymaking. He previously served as senior adviser for East Asia policy at the U.S. Office of the Secretary of Defense and as director of Asia Pacific Studies at the Institute for Foreign Policy Analysis (IFPA). The World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth's Global I.Q. Minute featured Stephen Biddle, Adjunct Senior Fellow for Defense Policy at the Council on Foreign Relations. In this episode, Biddle discusses the future of American support in Iraq and Afghanistan, the U.S. impact on the region's conflicts, and the contested Afghan/Pakistan border - an area where the sides have a "tendency to negotiate by 155 millimeter artillery."
