Special Edition of the NEFLIN Newsletter

We have so much news right now that we are putting out
this special edition wrapping up 2019 and previewing 2020.

A good time was had by all at this year's Annual Meeting.  The day got off to a great start with a keynote from Gina Millsap of the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library.

We had a number of concurrent sessions in the afternoon, including those highlighting our new online course from Ryan Dowd on working with the homeless, Interest Group Table Talks, presentations from the 2019 Innovation Project recipients, and a demo of our new Virtual Reality equipment (to enter our Equipment Loan program in 2020).

Here are photos taken throughout the day from our official photographer, Jae Bass (Thanks, Jae!).

Also, Brad was reminded that his staff is indispensable in his latest video " Too Many Clones".

2019 Annual Meeting
We are already thinking about next year.  We have set a tentative date of September 18, 2020, for the next Annual Meeting.  We look forward to seeing you then!

The silent auction and member donations raised $1,827 for the Jim Morris Fund.  This fund provides travel assistance to professional development events and conferences.

We appreciate all the members who donated baskets and to Christine Boatright, Kristin Corbin, and Katrina Evans for helping with the auction.

Coming in 2020

A highlight of the Annual Meeting is when we get to tell you what's coming in the new year.  Here are the projects we're excited to roll out in 2020:

Friends of the Library Project:  For this project, we're working with a library consultant to strengthen FOL groups and bring them into alignment with library programs and plans.  More details are coming soon!

Video Production Project:   Would you like to use video to market and promote your library more effectively?  We'll be contracting with professional videographers to produce a limited number of promotional videos for our member libraries.  Stay tuned for more info...

Innovation Projects:  Funding for these projects has doubled to $100,000!  Submit your idea for an innovative project by Jan. 3, 2020.

Disaster Preparedness Training:  Coming in mid-January, we'll partner with Lyrasis to offer a two-day hands-on disaster preparedness training. Don't miss this timely opportunity to prepare for the unexpected!

Statewide MLC Conference:  We're excited to partner with our sister consortia, PLAN, SEFLIN, and TBLC, to offer a statewide one-day conference in the late spring or early summer.  More information coming soon about this unique offering.

Continuing Education Awards
Hall of Fame

In order to shake things up a bit, we established the Continuing Education Awards Hall of Fame this year. Based on input from the Continuing Education Committee, we decided to make the CE Awards more competitive by placing those libraries that had won five or more awards into the Hall of Fame for that award. The inaugural members of the Golden Apple Hall of Fame were Alachua County Library District, Jacksonville Public Library and St. Johns County Public Library.

No library has met the five win threshold for Making the Most of NEFLIN yet, although a couple are close. You can see the complete list of past winners here

Youth Performers Showcase 2019

This perennially popular program has a new home! Alachua County Library District's Headquarters will host this gathering of magicians, musicians, jugglers and other entertainers.  Stop in on November 7 and get a preview of some of the fantastic talent available in the region to enliven your programs!
