Consultant Services for Development of Districtwide Vocal Music Program

The Board ratified an independent contractor agreement with Brian Dennis for technical assistance related to development of the District's new vocal music program during the 2016/17 school year. The cost for these services will not exceed $10,000.  Mr. Dennis is a retired teacher with 38 years of experience teaching elementary music. For the past several years, Mr. Dennis has also led the after-school choir program at Luther as a school volunteer.

 

Professional Development for GATE Certification Program

A proposal for professional development in the area of Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) was approved by the Board. Dr. Jennifer Krogh will provide a GATE certification program for teachers in grades 4-6 during the 2016/17 school year at a cost of $6,475. Dr. Krogh is an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Southern California's Rossier School of Education, where she teaches courses for the Master of Arts in Teaching and Gifted Education Certification programs.

 

Health Assistant-Elementary School Position

To address an increased number of students with significant medical conditions, the Board approved restoration of the health clerk position at each school site. The position has been renamed Health Assistant-Elementary School, and the job description was updated. Reinstatement of this part-time position will ensure continuous staff coverage of the school offices throughout the day for student safety.  

 

Declaration of Surplus Property

Two portable classroom buildings located at the closed Swain school site were declared as unusable surplus property, and demolition was authorized. The 36-year-old buildings have deteriorated and become the target of ongoing vandalism. The cost for demolition and removal will not exceed $12,000.
