Religion Forum, Thursday, March 9, 6-7 p.m. in CRH - "Colonial Differencing: The Untold Story" presented by visiting assistant professor of religion, R. W. Wafula. He will explore how colonial narratives have, over the last 500 years, created an unassailable epistemological racism. Wafula co-authored a book in 2016 entitled
Knowledge Activism Beyond Theory: A Worldwide Call to Action. A reception will follow in Qualley Lounge.

“Masculinity in the Locker Room” — Live streaming talk by Wade Davis, a former NFL player. Wade Davis is the NFL's first LGBT Diversity and Inclusion consultant and the Executive Director of the You Can Play Project, an organization dedicated to ending discrimination, sexism, and homophobia in sports. St. Olaf will host Davis and we will watch his talk, starting at 4:30 on Thursday, March 9 in Hovde Lounge.

Movie and discussion on Wednesday, March 8 in Olin 102 from 6-9 p.m. (with pizza served in the lobby). The movie "Running on Karma" synopsis: A monk turned body-builder, with the gift to see into people's lives, befriends a female cop, and uses his gift to change the force of Karma and her destiny. Co-sponsored by Religion, Philosophy, and Asian Studies.
The Luther College music department will host Mark Tollefsen in a guest recital at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 9, in the Noble Recital Hall in the Jensen-Noble Hall of Music. Tollefsen's program consists of the cycle of 15 piano pieces in Leoš Janáček's "On an Overgrown Path" and the 21 pieces of Robert Schumann's "Carnaval, Opus 9".

Krahn Family Student Life Service Award — Nominations for this award must be current Sophomore and Junior students who have demonstrated a strong contribution to campus life in a way that embraces the spirit and mission of Luther College. Any student, faculty, or staff member may nominate a student. This award is designed to recognize a student who makes a positive impact to student life. The $1,000 award is over and above any financial assistance a student receives.

Kuh Family "Positively Luther" Award — This award is given each year to a student whose character, leadership, and participation in co-curricular and other educationally purposeful activities enhance the quality of campus life. The recipient must be in good academic standing with a demonstrated need for financial assistance. This $5,000 award is expected to be over and above the financial aid package offered by the College. Students may apply for this award through March 31.
Don’t miss the 2017 Oneota Film Festival, to run March 9-12 on campus and in downtown Decorah. The festival lineup—mostly documentaries—includes adventure films like The Eagle Huntress and explores current topics related to the arts, family, health, sustainability, agriculture, education, and the Middle East. Visit OFF for a full schedule. Registration will be held in Valders Hall of Science; free admission, but memberships and donations allow the festival, in its eighth year, to continue.

Independent journalist Jyoti Thottam will give a lecture on “India's News Media in the Era of Right-Wing Populism,” on March 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Olin 102. Since the election of a decidedly right-wing government in 2014, the Indian media have engaged in self-censorship that avoids conflict or promotes government’s agenda. The lecture will also evaluate the possibility of the emergence of a similar relationship in the U.S. Thottam has held senior positions at Time magazine, Al-Jazeera America, and the US Fund for UNICEF.
Author and sacred music historian, Margot Fassler, will deliver a lecture at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, in the Recital Hall in the Center for Faith and Life. The lecture, titled "Hildegard's Chants for Cosmos and Creation" will focus on the works of Hildegard of Bingen, a nun and scientist.
Center for Ethics and Public Engagement TEDTalks — Join the Center for Ethics and Public Engagement at 9:45-10:45 a.m. Thursday, March 9 in Valders 262 for a screening of the TEDTalk by Oxford Professor Alexander Betts, "Our refugee system is failing. Here's how we can fix it." A discussion of Betts' ideas and their implications for the current refugee crisis in the EU will follow the 20-minute talk.

Igor Kalnin, Luther College visiting professor of music, will be joined by guest pianist Rochelle Sennet to perform as Duo MemDi at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 5. Part of Luther's Faculty Artist Series, the recital will be held in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music.
Kirk Larsen will give a presentation on Anderson Prairie titled "Anderson Prairie: Its Role in Luther's Education Mission" at 3 p.m.Thursday, March 9, in the Mott Room. Larsen will discuss the history of the prairie and its impact on the community. He will emphasize the ecosystem services that the prairie provides to Decorah.
