NEW!Leopard Life Skill for March - Optimism!
February has been a lively month as we focused on the Leopard Life Skill of "Zest."   S tudents have been learning about the importance of infusing energy and enthusiasm into their daily lives. It has been fun to watch our little leopards use the term and display vitality in their experiences at school
As we begin the month of March, we will be learning about the leopard life skill of "Optimism."  Most of us are familiar with the phrase, "When life gi ves you lemons, make lemonade. Well that is just the kind of attitude we want our students to have as they encounter setbacks or challenges. We will be learning that optimism is " having a positive and hopeful outlook about future outcomes even when things are difficult. " Research shows that people who are optimistic are more committed to their goals, are more successful in achieving their goals, are more satisfied with their lives, and have better mental and physical health when compared to more pessimistic people. By teaching our little leopards about optimism, we hope they will realize that their attitude can either help or hinder their ability to learn from their failures and keep moving forward to accomplish their goals. Helen Keller described it well when she said, "Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence."
Our Leopard Life Skills are based on the nine character strengths, skills, and mindsets from Character Lab. You can get more information about these by visiting their website at www.characterlab.org . Please feel free to contact me any time if you have any questions. Thank you for supporting our efforts to help our little leopards excel in the classroom and in life!
