March 2, 2017

This time of year, along with the unstable weather, has brought forth several illnesses at school recently. Students who are ill can not learn at their best and are at risk of making others sick.

CJ follows the school recommendations set forth by the CDC in regards to helping stop the spread of illnesses in schools. In general, students will be sent home from school if they have a temperature above 100 degrees or throw-up during school. We encourage you to remind your child to wash their hands regularly and cover their coughs and sneezes as prevention steps.

More details about the CDC guidelines can be found here. You can contact Colleen Norris, CJ school nurse, through email or phone (461-3740 x227) with additional questions or concerns.

Class of 2018
ACT Testing on Tuesday, Mar. 21
All juniors will take the ACT on  Tuesday, Mar. 21. This test is an official, full-length ACT (English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science only) which will result in a college reportable score.
It is important that the juniors realize the importance of this test and prepare for it just like an ACT given on a Saturday morning. The only differences are:
  • this test is free; and,
  • there is no need to go online to register.
Students are permitted to use a calculator on the mathematics portion (please see ACT's guidelines on  permitted calculators) and a number 2 pencil (not mechanical) is required.  Students will complete pre-test information prior to taking the test and will need to report what colleges they want to receive their scores. Students are allowed to send their scores to up to four colleges or universities. While sending scores to colleges is optional, doing so at this point can save the cost of having to send the scores directly from ACT to the college in the future.

School Schedule Change
Tuesday, Mar. 21  |  Dismissal at 12:15 p.m.
March 21 will be a half day for testing. All juniors, sophomores, and freshmen must report at  8:05 and will be dismissed at  12:15. Seniors who are not on the senior trip have the day off and are encouraged to work on finalizing their college plans. Juniors will take the ACT and sophomores and freshmen will take the state of Ohio end-of-course exam in English 9 or 10. The Eagle Learning Center is not open after school this day.

College Credit Plus
Saturday, Apr. 15 -
DEADLINE

To participate in CCP, students must complete a series of steps including being accepted to the college as a CCP student and applying for funding from the state.  There are several hard deadlines which must be met as well--especially Saturday,  Apr. 15, the last day to apply for funding. Please refer to  CJ's College Credit Plus page  for more information regarding the program including a list of steps to complete and the corresponding deadlines.

MINISTRY & SERVICE

From the Chaplain's Office
On Wednesday, we began the Season of Lent. This is a time of penance as we prepare our hearts for the great feast of Easter. I would encourage you to take part in some practice - maybe giving something up, spending extra time in prayer, or helping out a charitable cause. As a community, CJ has planned some special events. Ask your child about these. If he or she doesn't know, have them stop by Ministry and Service to find out what they can do this Lent.
