post, immodestly asserts:
I can envision a comprehensive design for health care in the United States that will expand access and control costs while conforming to our shared national values of personal responsibility, care for thy neighbor and free enterprise.

Thomas Birch, an infectious disease physician, lays out a plausible plan for real health reform. This short article is definitely worth a read!

Conflicts of Interest for Patient-Advocacy Organizations
|
WH
A
New England Journal of Medicine Special Report published
3.1.17 found that 83% of patient advocacy groups accepted donations from drug or medical device makers. The study also found that in close to 40% of cases, executives in the pharmaceutical industry sit on governing boards of patient groups. For some groups in the study, donations from the industry make up more than half of their annual income.
WIM
According to a
New York Times
article on the study, also published March 1:
Nearly "nine out of every 10 are taking money," said
Dr. Ezekiel J. Emanuel, an oncologist and vice provost at the
University of Pennsylvania. He is one of the authors of the study, which looked at the top 104 nonprofit patient advocacy groups that reported more than $7.5 million in annual revenues for 2014. "I think that is not well known - I think that is a shock."
"Compared to what researchers are doing, this is pathetic," he said. And yet "they wrap themselves in white as if they're pure."

Medscape
post (login/complimentary registration required):
Addressing a joint session of
Congress, President
Donald Trump tonight laid out a now-familiar game plan for repealing and replacing the
Affordable Care Act
(ACA) and asked
Republicans and
Democrats to join forces and "get the job done, and get it done right."
WIM
According to Mr. Lowes:
So far, a unified Republican plan for replace-and-repeal has yet to materialize. Several bills have surfaced in the
Senate, House Speaker
Paul Ryan (R-WI) has promised to introduce a measure next month, and the Trump administration also has said it would weigh in with a proposal.
Trump and his Republican allies in Congress have been discussing elements of a plan to repeal and replace the ACA for weeks. Tonight, the president pulled many of them together under the rubric of guiding principles.
