PICTURES SAY IT BETTER THAN WORDS EVER COULD
Thank you for supporting the work of
Hearts In Motion
What a tremendous surprise it was to see Donel, Elvira and their mother walking up to our gate this month. Both Donel and Elvira used to live at our Nutrition Center in Guatemala for almost 2 years back in 2009.

Elvira was especially excited about their trip to the Nutrition Center. The family has no running water in their home; so upon arrival at the center, the first thing she asked was if she could take a shower. She missed that experience so much!

LOVE IS IN THE AIR FOR ROBERTO & BECCA

When we say we are proud that our volunteers stay with us year after year, we mean it. However not all of our volunteers fall madly in love with one of our young handsome single staff members. That's exactly what happened to Becca ... staying with HIM is just what she plans to do. After volunteering the last year in Guatemala, she and Roberto, Director of the Music In Motion Program, were married in a beautiful ceremony in Guatemala with family and friends. We want to wish them a life full of blessings and happiness!!

ALVARO'S TAKING ON THE WORLD

This past October, our Orthopedic surgical team made a difficult yet necessary decision to amputate both legs on 3 year old Alvaro, a child in our Nutrition Center. Seeing Alvaro wheeling around in his wheelchair giving him the mobility he did not have before is a sight that would melt your heart. Thanks to our therapists who are working with him daily, there's a new future of promise for him as he begins exploring all the amazing possibilities.

SMILES, GIFTS & GOOD-BYES

What a wonderful way to say good bye to the kids at the Reese House and Nutrition Center when each of the children in the center were given their own Children's Bible by Ryan and Jen. They were so excited!

We want to say a heartfelt thank you to Ryan and Jen Borck who spent the last 3 months as volunteers at our Nutrition Center and were great additions to the H.I.M. Staff. Ryan is a Physical Therapist and Jen is a nurse. Together, they brought their unique gifts to help our children. Their loving and committed hearts will be missed!

MUSIC IN MOTION UPDATE

This was a big year for Music In Motion! We are so grateful to have spent our first full year in our own building, Jeanne's House of Joyful Noise, which has been amazing. The students have also had the wonderful opportunity to do more performances - not only have they performed for all of our trip volunteers, they have also had concerts at their churches and schools.

We are excited to say that in August Music In Motion had its first Music Camp. A group of 12 volunteers embarked on a week-long trip which resulted in a successful camp, as well as the construction of needed shelving and the painting of our stair rail in our building. During the camp, students had the opportunity to work with musicians from the States. Students learned new songs, to play a new instrument, and skills to advance their technique! They also had the opportunity to show off their own skills to the musicians! At the end of the week, the students, along with their instructors, performed a recital to show off what they had learned. It was an incredible experience and we are looking forward to holding more Music Camps in the future.

Music In Motion is also excited to announce our new sponsorship program. We currently have seven students sponsored and are working towards finding sponsors for the rest. One of our goals for next year is to have a sponsor for every student. For more information on how to sponsor, visit www.heartsinmotion.org and go to the sponsorship page. We are hoping to continue to grow this program by sharing the power of music with more children. Thank you for all of your prayers and support.

CHRISTMAS GIFTS TO GUATEMALA

We are so excited to send Christmas presents down to our children in Guatemala who are currently living at our Nutrition Center and Reese House. Thank you to all who donated these gifts, making the magic of Christmas morning possible . . . you put the smiles on their little faces when they wake up to see what Santa left!
AMILCAR AND HIS SPONSORS

Marcia McGinnis and her husband Steve have been sponsoring Amilcar Estrada through HIM School Sponsorship Program since December 2013. When they met him the first time in 2014, they were very humbled  to find out that he refers to them as his "godparents". This made quite an impact on Marcia and Steve, realizing that it's not just the monetary investment they are making in his life but it's making a huge impact on his future and the future of his family. Amilcar is now in the 7th grade and is an exceptional student who gets straight 'A's in almost all of his classes. He is very sweet and wears a huge grin whenever they meet him. He enjoys soccer ('futbol') and studying computers as well. Unfortunately due to family challenges caused by living in a home with his single mother and family, he is now having to work 1/2 days but continues to carry a huge course load. He is taking 14 courses at a time, from mid-day until evening, then going home to do homework. They sincerely hope that Amilcar can stay in school and eventually go to a university. One exceptional observation they have seen is that Amilcar is continuing to grow! They visit him 2 to 3 times a year since they met and in those years he has probably grown a foot in height!

A huge thank you to Marcia and Steve and all the rest of you who so faithfully sponsor the children in the Sponsorship Program, giving them the opportunity to stay in school in hopes of a better future.
