New Exhibit 'Aviary' Debuts at
Lafayette City Center Passageway

A new exhibit, "Aviary," debuted at the Lafayette City Center Passageway and has already compelled passersby to stop, look at the imagery, and not just fly through the hallway.

"In choosing photographs I tried to incorporate a variety of styles yet hold a threaded narrative that would draw the viewer down the long corridor," said Paula Tognarelli,
executive director and curator for the Griffin Museum of Photography. "The photographers have turned this gallery in the Lafayette City Center Passageway into an enclosure for birds with their photographs."

The Passageway is lined with works from 61 photographers from all corners of the country. Numerous photos of peacocks were submitted and only one person submitted an image of a bird in a cage.

The Lafayette City Center Passageway connects Avenue de Lafayette to Macy's and is open daily to the public from 10 am to 6 pm.

The exhibit is part of the ongoing photography series at the Passageway by the Griffin Museum of Photography. This exhibit is supported by the Abbey Group, Lafayette City Center and the Downtown Boston Business Improvement District

Johnston said the bookstore also has antiquarian books and maps, as well as rare editions. He added that maps of Ireland and China are very popular.

Johnston also has a four-legged coworker named Leo, who was adopted by the store in 2016 from a rescue shelter. Leo quickly became very popular and has his own guest book with messages from visitors all over the world. He's also quite the salescat as people commonly come in to visit him and end up purchasing books.
