Spring has Sprung

Can you believe it? For many of us, this is a time of year when we start waking up. We have more daylight. We're ready to spend a little more time outside. We start craving lighter foods. There is light at the end of the winter tunnel. But for our farmers, they've been thinking about their 2017 season for weeks. Why? Because cold weather crops need to get into the ground as soon as the soil is workable, and they go into the ground as seedlings, not seeds. Those lucky enough to have a greenhouse get to plan ahead and hold their seedlings for appropriate outdoor temperatures. However, most small farms on the Cape don't have the luxury of a greenhouse and they are at the mercy of this unpredictable spring. So as you notice more vendors offering produce at the market, thank them for their hard work! And don't forget to thank the vendors who have brought you greens all winter as well.

Meet Checkerberry Farm:

Located in South Orleans,  Checkerberry Farm is a small family owned and operated farm. In business for 20 years, they've been bringing produce to customers at Farmers' Markets for two decades. Their quality, sustainably grown produce is chemical-free and their soil is nurtured with natural amendments (like compost). They shared, "We love meeting our customers and being able to share the wealth of the land." Find them on B Weeks (2nd & 4th Saturdays, scroll down for Vendor Schedule ).

Meet Cape Cod Spinners Guild :

The Cape Cod Spinners Guild is a group of women who share a love and passion for fiber. They meet once a month to share, chat and learn from each other about fiber and the animals that produce it. They help, encourage and teach one another techniques in fiber art! Members of the Cape Cod Spinners Guild take turns offering their products at every market which are made from handspun, naturally dyed yarn.

Meet Cape Cup:

Cape Cup offers delectable baked goods at each Market. From muffins to cookies to bars to pies, cakes and quickbreads, there's lots of variety. Including wheat and gluten free options. Come say hi to Elise and Bill!

Ann Lovald of Wellfleet Handwovens has been weaving actively since college. She owned a weaving studio and retail shop in Vermont for 8 years before moving to the Cape. She has given weaving lessons and worked with local teachers to bring small looms and weaving into their classrooms. You can find Ann and her handwoven tea towels, scarves, rag & wool rugs, placemats and more on A weeks (1st & 3rd Saturdays, scroll down for Vendor Schedule).

Vendors this Month

This season we're doing things a little differently. As you know, summers are extra busy for small businesses on Cape Cod. In order to enjoy a much needed break, some of our vendors will participate every other week while others will be there every week. We're splitting the markets each month into A weeks and B weeks so that you know who to expect each time you visit.

Tips to get the most out of each market:
  • Some vendors will be available at a limited number of markets. These vendors are indicated with an asterisk (*). We want you to know so you don't miss them.
  • Actual participation is subject to change without notice.
