Academy Talk to feature former poet laureate
The public is invited to an Academy Talk with former Wisconsin Poet Laureate Bruce Dethlefsen, who will discuss his evolution as a poet and share his wisdom for emerging writers.

The event will be held Thursday, April 20, with light refreshments from 6 to 7 p.m. in The Loft on the third floor of the library. The lecture and discussion will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Rocca Meeting Room on the first floor. 

The event is free and open to the public. Advance registration is encouraged at www.wisconsinacademy.org. 

This special talk is presented by the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts, and Letters in partnership with the Mead Public Library Foundation.

Wisconsin Vegetable Gardener hosts to hold FREE workshops at Mead
The Wisconsin Vegetable Gardener Radio Show hosts Joey and Holly Baird will hold a pair of free gardening workshops in the Rocca Meeting Room on Saturday, April 1.

The Bairds, whose show is broadcast on WNOV-AM (860 AM or 106.5 FM) in Milwaukee, will discuss how to grow vegetables and produce compost at the same time using straw bale gardening during the first session, scheduled for 1 to 2 p.m.

The second class, slated for 2:15 to 3:15 p.m., will cover how to maximize production in gardens of any size.

Both sessions are free (attend one or both), and no registration is required. Call 920-459-3400, ext. 3422 for more information.
