March First Thursday
Coffee and Conversation
with Head of School,
Michael Zimmerman

Thursday,  March 2, 2017
8:00 am
Schoolhouse Community Room

Please join me for the First Thursday Coffee.

Physician and early childhood educator, Maria Montessori said-

It is the child who makes the person, and no person exists who was not made by the child he or she once was.

This Thursday we begin at the beginning. How does Friends School Haverford, and how do you as parents, address matters of self-care, sleep, toileting, independence and resiliency? What are the challenges, routines, language, and strategies that support learning and healthy social and emotional development in Heritage House age children?

Please join me for a conversation in which we will raise questions, explore issues, and search for answers together. If you have a resource, book, or quotation you live by as a parent please bring that information along to share.

First Thursday Coffees provide an opportunity for parents to socialize, share feedback, raise issues, and ask questions of their own. We will gather at 8:00 am to enjoy refreshments and each other's company. We will begin the meeting at 8:15 am.

If the topic of this month's coffee is of interest to you but you are unable to attend the meeting, please feel free to contact Nancy Hurley in the office to schedule an appointment to meet with me at a time that is convenient for you. Regular and forthright discussion, open lines of communication, and the exchange of ideas improve our community. I am grateful for your support. I am always happy to hear from you.

I hope to see you there,
Michael

100 Days of School Celebration

Grades 1 and 2 participated in several exciting activities for the 100 days of school celebration. Students had a choice of activities such as making a "100 days smarter" hat, finding two numbers from the 100 chart, making a self portrait of what you'd look like at age 100, coloring a "color by code" page, competing in the "100 Olympics" for a gold medal, and creating a mosiac with 100 pattern blocks with a partner. There was a lot of creativity and participation in this fun event.

Kindergarten Library Time

Tr. Jess read a story to the kindergarten class in the library and then the students were off to find three books to read either by themselves or with friends. They are also learning how to sign books out of the library and making nice progress.
