Thanks Penny!
Congratulations to Penny Defenbaugh on her retirement! Penny has been deeply dedicated to and involved in our school community for over 25 years. Much of a school secretary's daily duties and accomplishments go unnoticed.

Each year members of Student Council, which is comprised of fourth grade students, participate in community service activities as well as activities that promote school spirit. Welcome to Our World!
The other day a large group of our 8th Grade girls came down to the office, requesting to see me. Now when a big crowd is gathering outside the principal's' office, it can bring up that "oh,oh, what's up" feeling in the gut!

All a Part of a Balanced Diet
Every few weeks, we like to revisit the topic of technology use. Technology is so prevalent in our daily lives, ranging from work and school to personal usage, that it seems critical to constantly reevaluate how we and our students are leveraging the benefits of our devices while also maintaining a healthy balance.

Message from the President
In the past two years as President of our PTA, the Executive Board has tried to make positive changes as well as maintain a great community experience for all Pleasantdale families. A topic that continually comes up among Executive Board members as well as other PTA members is the idea of changing our PTA to a PTO. A PTA is a National Association that started in 1897 as a voice for children. While the National PTA still maintains its position to empower families and communities to advocate for all children, we believe we can accomplish this as a locally governed PTO. A PTO is a local Parent Teacher Organization that creates its own bylaws and regulations on a local level versus being governed by a National organization. Local schools with a PTO Structure include Gower (Burr Ridge/Willowbrook), Laidlaw (Western Springs), Spring Avenue (LaGrange) and Ideal (Countryside) as well as many more. Under the PTA Body structure we have paid more than $1,500.00 in dues this past year alone, without any local benefit beyond being a part of the National 501(c) 3 tax exempt status. With this in mind, we are asking for your support in the near term to move from a Nationally governed PTA to a locally governed PTO for Pleasantdale District 107.
Thank you for your time,
Amanda Davis
