Our stalwart supporters, the Friends of the Edgartown Library, will help us celebrate the milestone of our first anniversary here with an open house from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 25. We hope to see you then.
We have so much to celebrate.
For all of us here at the Edgartown Library, the memories of March 21, 2016 are still vivid. We opened that Monday morning in a building that was almost as new and unfamiliar to us, the librarians, as it was to you, the patrons we serve.
It's been a whirlwind year of learning how to tap the possibilities presented by a wonderful new facility that opens up so many fresh opportunities for expanding this library's services and public programs. We're still learning, and we especially appreciate hearing from you with suggestions about how we can serve you better.

The Handmaiden
 An erotic thriller set in Korea of the 1930s that tells a dizzying, disturbing fable of love and betrayal.

The Hunt
An engrossing, unsettling psychological drama with Mads Mikkelsen's great performance at its center.
Directed by Thomas Vinterberg. (Denmark, 2012)

Fireworks Wednesday
Tehran on the eve of the Muslim New Year provides the backdrop for this complex Iranian drama about a marriage in crisis. An early, resonant work from the Oscar-winning filmmaker, Asghar Farhadi. (Iran, 2006)

Lore
The sins of the Fatherland send a teenage girl and her Nazi-connected family on the run at the end of WW II in this vivid and poetic film.
Directed by Cate Shortland. (Australia, 2013)

Scottish Society Singers Present
'My Heart's in the Highlands,'
A Celebration of Scottish Song,
At 3 p.m. Saturday, March 11
The singers, under the direction of Philip Dietterich and associate director, Dorian Lopes, will perform songs of nature, love, hope and pride. Along with a group of classic folk songs by the Bard of Scotland, Robert Burns, a new piece by Martha's Vineyard's own poet, Steve Ewing, and composer, Dorian Lopes, entitled "Highland Song" will be performed.
Join us for a winter's afternoon of heart-warming harmony. All are welcome.

Opera Club Doubles Up in March
With One New Program, a
nd a Replay
Sunday, March 5, 1 p.m.
Our presentation of Die Walküre, the second opera in Richard Wagner's epic "The Ring of the Nibelung," was interrupted on Feb. 11 by a technical glitch. We are presenting it again at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 5. Running time is 5 hours, with two intermissions. All adults are welcome.
Saturday, March 18, 1 p.m.
And at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, we'll continue with Siegfried, the third opera in Wagner's series. The cast includes Bryn Terfel, Eric Owens, Deborah Voigt, and Jay Hunter Morris in the title role.
Robert Lepage's production was filmed live at the Metropolitan Opera in 2011, with maestro Fabio Luisi conducting. The production runs 4 1/2 hours including intermissions. All adults welcome.

Further Adventures in Slow Cooking:
Join Us Tuesday, March 14, at 1:30 p.m.
Adventures in Slow Cooking, the free winter instructional series with Virginia Munro, continues on Tuesday, March 14, at 1:30 p.m.
Virginia's recipe for March is a creamy, savory Indian Butter Chicken. In addition, we'll learn how to make a healthy and delicious mango chutney.
If you're interested in learning the easy way to prepare delicious world cuisine, this program is for you. But space is limited, so please call the library in advance to register.

Library Book Group Meets

The Edgartown Library book group, facilitated by author Jean Stone, will gather at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, to discuss
Hillbilly Elegy, the celebrated new book by J.D. Vance.
Hillbilly Elegy, writes the Wall Street Journal, is "
a beautiful memoir, but it is equally a work of cultural criticism about white working-class America.... [Vance] offers a compelling explanation for why it's so hard for someone who grew up the way he did to make it . . . a riveting book."

AARP Volunteers Offer
Tax Help at the Library
Tax time is around the corner: Again this year, v
olunteers certified and trained under the AARP Tax Aide Program will be at the Edgartown Library offering free income tax preparation assistance, with a special emphasis on taxpayers sixty and older.
You'll be asked to
bring last year's tax return to your appointment, together with all your tax forms (W-2, SSA-1099, and other 1099 forms, including real estate taxes). Before your appointment, you'll need to complete the questionnaire that's available at your local Senior Center.

It's a Family Dance Party!

At the Library on Friday, March 31
 Johnny Hoy is one of the biggest draws every year at
Sounds Like Summer, the library's annual series of concerts on the front lawn. Now we're bringing Mr. Hoy and his band to the library for an indoor dance party on the last day of March.
Hours of the event are from 6:30 to 8 p.m. --- it's a free program for the whole family, and everyone is invited.

What better way to keep your hands warm this winter than a cool knitting project? Please join us weekly on Saturday mornings from 10:30 a.m. to noon for beginner's instructions, advanced knitting problem solving and, most importantly, good fellowship.
This is a drop-in group, and all are welcome. We meet in the library's upstairs board room and look forward to seeing you.

Story Hours (every week):
For toddlers, we hold Story Hour every Thursday at 10:30 a.m., and
Story Hour with puppets every Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
In addition, we're offering a series of Toddler Story Hour programs with Elyce Bonnell, every weekday from March 13 through the end of the month, with a special theme for each day:
* Mondays at 10:30 a.m. (3/13, 20 and 27) are Monster Mondays with stories and craft activities all about monsters.
* Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. (3/14, 21 and 28) are Twisty Tuesdays, featuring stories with yoga poses.
* Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. (3/15, 22 and 29) are Wacky Wednesdays, with stories from Dr. Seuss and related craft activities.
* Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. (3/16, 23 and 30) are Throwback Thursdays, celebrating classic children's stories, with crafts after.
* Fridays at 10:30 a.m. (3/17, 24 and 31) are Fairy Tale Fridays, with fairy tales read aloud, followed by fairy house-making.
On Saturdays, and for the After School Crowd:
March begins with three movie screenings from the Star Wars series, at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 2-4, on the big screen in our program room.
On Saturday, March 11, we'll hold a St. Patrick's Day crafts program at 2 p.m.
On Saturday March 18, we'll celebrate Kite Month in the Children's Room with a kite-making program at 2 p.m.
On Saturday, March 25, we'll have cloth flying discs for kids to customize with decorations of their own.
