Recently, someone asked why I, Rachel, was involved with TTN. When I moved to Santa Fe three years ago, TTN was a wonderful place for me to feel like I belonged to something in my new city. I met lots of warm, welcoming women and had the option of attending monthly programs and activities. All for little or no cost above my membership. I had a home base.
Here I am, three years later, as the chapter co-coordinator and the reasons I first joined TTN are no longer those that keep me engaged. What keeps me engaged is that The Transition Network offers something unique in Santa Fe: one organization that provides access to a variety of programs at monthly meetings where I learn about a timely topic - like an informative presentation by the League of Women Voters (right before election day) -- or something about what makes us humans tick - last month's recent talk about Left-brain/Right-brain time management. [These monthly meetings are open to all.]
And we have a variety of special and unique activities just for members; from a hike around the
Mesa Prieta Petroglyphs to a docent-led tour of the art at the historic
La Fonda Hotel and this past summer, a trip to Taos to see the
Mabel Dodge Luhan house and exhibit at the
Harwood Museum where our docent was a TTN member. These are not generally things I would have done or known about if it were not for TTN.
So, whether you're interested in learning about something new or looking for something a little different to do, you can always find it under TTN's broad umbrella.
-Rachel

When Best Laid Plans Go Awry.......
On February 22nd, six TTN members gathered on Museum Hill looking forward to a private tour of the
Museum of Indian Arts and Culture to be led by
Kay Henriksen, a docent at the museum and also treasurer of our TTN chapter. Alas, a gas leak at the museum forced the building to be evacuated, cancelling our visit! Luckily the hill offers several alternatives and the group quickly chose to explore the nearby
Museum of International Folk Art instead.
Coincidentally upon our arrival, an available docent offered to give us a tour of the
Alexander Girard permanent exhibition
Multiple Visions: A Common Bond. Although most of us had already visited this exhibit, our guide helped us to see it afresh with her explanation of just a few of the many, many installations. We learned that Alexander Girard fully planned and supervised the creation of the displays designed to showcase his extremely extensive collection of 10,000 pieces of folk art, toys, miniatures and textiles from around the planet. Time prevented us from exploring other current exhibits at the museum, but all vowed to return again to this fascinating institution!
