The Cold Never Bothered Bikers, Anyway
If you are a dedicated cyclist who doesn't let the cold temperatures or snow stop you from biking, tomorrow is your day; the Active Transportation Alliance is hosting its 15th annual Winter Bike to Work Day from 6:30 to 8 a.m. Friday at Daley Plaza to kick off its Winter Bike Challenge.
For those who struggle to hop on a bike in low temperatures, maybe free Dark Matter Coffee and Eli's Cheesecake will serve as your exercise motivation. Active Trans will also provide hot chocolate, tea, and samples from Nuun and Clif to help participants warm up and mingle with others.
Another bonus for participating in Winter Bike to Work Day is all riders are eligible for earning double miles Friday towards their Winter Bike Challenge miles; just stop by the Active Trans tent to find out how, the event website says.
"According to data compiled by the U.S. Census, 1.7 percent of Chicagoans 16 and older rode a bike to work in 2014, the last year for which data is available," DNA Info reports.

2016 Bank of America Chicago Marathon Charity Runners Raised $16.9 Million
The Bank of America Chicago Marathon today announced that more than 10,000 runners raised $16.9 million through the 2016 Charity Program. Since the charity program was officially established in 2002, more than 106,000 runners have raised over $167 million for local, national and global causes.
"Our Charity Program speaks to the power and spirit of the running community, and one of the greatest legacies of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon is the significant impact the Charity Program has had on local, national and global causes," said Carey Pinkowski, executive race director.
"Since 2002, charities have increased their revenue and visibility, and we have welcomed new runners across our finish line. We are proud that one of the premier hallmarks on race day is seeing thousands of charity runners striding together on the streets of Chicago to make a difference in the world."

World's Fastest Tri Just Got Better Leon's Triathlon has been selected to be the 2017 USAT Mideast Regional Championship race!
The annual race, will be held on June 4 this year at Wolf Lake Park in Hammond, IN. There are both Sprint and Olympic distance triathlons available.
Because of its completely closed course, the closing of a six lane freeway, and all three events starting and finishing at the same staging area, Leon's Triathlon came to be known as the fastest triathlon in the world, according to its Facebook page.
Registration is open, but only 1,000 athletes will be able to participate. For more information, visit http://new.leonstriathlon.com. |
New Years Resolutions for the Injured Athlete It's a brand new year; everyone you know just got a Fitbit, your friends are signing up for a new distances and destination races, and you're injured.
Watching the world chase their goals while you're sidelined from yours can leave you adrift and demotivated. But for injured athletes, these four resolutions are your roadmap to recovery (and if not recovery, sanity):
1. Get outside everyday
2. Maintain your training friendships
3. Read inspiring comeback stories.
4.
Experiment with cross-training.
