 Student Ministries Fundraiser
Tickets are still available for our annual Student Ministry Fundraiser this Sunday, March 12, at 6:30 pm (doors open at 6:00). It is the money we raise through this event that makes our mission trips possible. Individual tickets are $35 each, or you can purchase a reserved table of eight for $350. Tickets are available by visiting www.vhumc.org or click on the link below.
You can also donate using VHUMC's Text-To-Give by texting the word "Serve" to 205-900-3747.
Don't forget to bring your cash so you can participate in the always entertaining bead game for the chance to win a great gift! Students attending any of our mission trips are strongly encouraged to help serve dinner and sell beads for the bead game. Please sign up outside of the Student Ministries Office to volunteer. We hope you join us on this fun-filled evening!

 New Life Singers Silent Auction
Come bid on fabulous silent auction items set up in the small dining room this Sunday morning, March 12, from 8 am-12:30 pm then again Sunday night from 5 pm-6:30 pm before the Student Ministries Fundraiser. If you cannot be present at the event Sunday night, a sealed bid can be left with your desired auction item. All proceeds benefit the New Life Singers Youth Choir.

 We Built Three Wells
You did it, VHUMC! The generosity of our congregation raised enough money to build three wells and help with sand filters. Our contribution to the Neverthirst organization was over $14,000. Because of this, families for generations to come will have clean drinking water. Neverthirst said our donation will help the Cambodia Project where the wells will be dug in late summer or early fall.
Follow the link for information on the Cambodia well project. Neverthirst will use the balance of our funds to build bio-sand filters in Cambodia. Once the project is started, we will continue to give you updates until they are complete. Thank you for continuing to be the servants that God calls us to be each and every day, both locally in Birmingham and globally across the world in Cambodia.

 Sunday Evening Worship

 Hilltoppers Meeting Coming Up

 Easter Egg Hunt
Neighbors and friends, come join us for the VHUMC Easter Egg Hunt! We will gather on Saturday, April 8, at 10:00 am, in Tyson Hall. All toddlers thru 2nd grade are invited to bring a basket and camera to take pictures with the Easter Bunny and of course have fun with each other as we hunt eggs together! |
 Help the Hungry, Feed Your Soul
Every night, 66 million elementary-aged children in the developing world go to bed hungry. Our community-wide meal packing event, Rise Against Hunger (formerly known as Stop Hunger Now) can make a tremendous difference. Each meal costs only 29 cents, and our Lenten offering will support our goal of packing 300,000 meals here at VHUMC on April 23-25.  Young Adult Mystery Dinner
Come join us for a mystery dinner on Saturday, March 18, at 6:30 pm to get to know other people outside of our usual groups and classes. Couples will be paired with 3-4 other couples to meet at a restaurant of your choosing (you will not know who you are going to meet until you arrive). Please register by March 12 The cost is $5.00 per couple and the registration deadline is March 12. Childcare is available on a first come/first serve basis but must be registered ahead of time.  Forty Days-Forty Items
During this time of Lent, how would you like to unburden your life so that you can concentrate on what God has planned for you this Lenten season? One way to do that is to de-clutter your life, get rid of the "stuff" that is constantly weighing you down. Our challenge to you this spring is forty items or more during Lent to clean out and donate to someone in need.
On Saturday, April 8, VHUMC will once again host the Clean Out Challenge. Our first clean out challenge in October was very successful, and many of you have requested that we do it again. Shred-It, Electronic Recycling and others will be in the big church parking lot by Tyson Hall from 9:00 am until noon. Bellhops will help you unload your car so all you have to do is just pull up and donate! In the upcoming weeks, we will give you some suggestions of items to donate to help some of our mission partners.

Understanding World Religions
This class is a study the histories of Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and several lesser known religions. Our teacher will be Mr. Ben Osborne, teacher of AP World History at Vestavia Hills High School. In 2010, he was granted a James Madison Fellowship to pursue advanced studies related to American Constitutional government. Mr. Osborne is known for bringing to life the subjects that he teaches, which includes the history of the major religions of our world.  24 Hours That Changed the World
This Lenten Study will focus on the last day of the life of Jesus, following the book and DVD by Adam Hamilton. Leaders will be the pastoral staff, including Dr. Bill Brunson and Dr. Kipp McClurg. Join us on Wednesday nights, at 6:00 pm, from March 8 to April 26 (excluding Spring Break and Holy Week). |

 Vacation Bible Camp 2017
Calling all heroes! Vacation Bible Camp is on June 12-16 and this year our theme is Hero Central. We will be learning how we can become truly heroic in God. You can register your 4k (by September 1, 2016) through 5th grader online: www.vhumc.org. We are also looking for leaders in our groups, crafts, snacks and other areas.  March Memory Verse
Our 1st-5th graders have a new memory verse for March. It is: "I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another." - John 13:34

 Guys Night Out
VHUMC will hold its annual Guys Night Out to watch the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. We will meet on Thursday, March 23, at 6:00 pm, in the Fellowship Hall. The cost is $10/person. We will have Donato's pizza and hot wings, Moe's chips and salsa, as well as popcorn, desserts, and plenty of drinks. Deadline to register is Sunday March 19. Steeple 2 Steeple 10K, 5K, and Fun Run
 Support the United Methodist Children's Home by lacing up your running shoes and participating in the Steeple 2 Steeple race on Saturday, April 22. The race takes place in Homewood and Mountain Brook and is run between Trinity UMC and Canterbury UMC. Run or walk the 10K, 5K, or Fun Run course and represent VHUMC! Men's Hiking Group September Trip
 The VHUMC Men's Hiking Group will be heading to Rocky Mountain National Park September 9-16 to hike through a wide variety of wildlife within various climates and environments from wooded forests to alpine lakes and mountain tundra. The plan is to stay in a local motel at night and take a hike each day. As the days go by the hikes will become more ambitious. Features along the hikes will include lakes, waterfalls, and mountain summits. For those interested in backpacking and overnight camping, part of the group may go out for a two-day wilderness trek. Estimated expenses including airfare, motel, car or van rental, food, and miscellaneous items is $1,500. To register please contact Jim Frazier ([email protected] / 769-0126). |
Ongoing Outreach
 It's Time For Bunny Aid
VHUMC will once again team up with Peter Cottontail and his friends at Hands on Birmingham to collect goodies and Easter Baskets for community organizations around Birmingham. Bunny Aid is a project where Hands on Birmingham partners with community organizations to make Easter morning extra special for children. We will be collecting pre-made baskets at VHUMC from March 12-April 2. If you would rather make a financial contribution for the baskets, please make check to VHUMC earmarked Bunny Aid in the memo line. Financial donations will be accepted until Friday, March 31. Thank you for your continued efforts to make one child's Easter morning extra bright and special.
Food Pantry

- Brown plastic grocery bags (preferably doubled)
