Keep Old Glory Flying
The Herreshoff Marine Museum is currently raising funds on indiegogo.com to repair our iconic flagpole. At 107 feet tall, complete with gaff and crosstrees, our flagpole, we believe, is the tallest in the state of Rhode Island. Sadly, when the flagpole was taken down for maintenance in the fall of 2013 it was discovered that there is extensive rot in the lower portion of the pole, making it unsafe. We are seeking the support of the public to enable us to repair and reinstall the pole, at an estimated cost of $30,000, in time to celebrate the Fourth of July in proper style in 2015. Please help us raise the flag!

Planned Campus Improvements

We are pleased to announce that we have received a $50,000 grant from The Champlin Foundations to replace the old chain link fence on our waterfront with a beautiful new decorative aluminum fence. This will be a significant step in the continuing upgrade of our historic campus. We have also received approval from the Bristol Historic District Commission to replace the wooden doors at the Museum's main entrance with a new ADA compliant glass door, funded by the Grayce B. Kerr Fund. These improvements, together with rehabilitation work to be performed on the Burnside Building at 22-26 Burnside Street in the spring, mean that the appearance of our campus will be considerably enhanced when we re-open the Museum next April.
