The NFF has announced the first book, "Mean" Joe Greene: Built By Football, in its Football Matters' "Built By Football" series. The book, which will be available April 3, can be preordered by clicking here.

2017 College Football Hall of Fame electee and 1997 Campbell Trophy winner Peyton Manning (Tennessee) visited the U.S. Air Force Academy last week, meeting with the staff, cadets and speaking about the warrior ethos. 

College Football Hall of Famers  Bob Brown and  Rich Glover  will be enshrined in the University of Nebraska Athletics Hall of Fame this fall.

College Football Hall of Fame coach Lou Holtz and 2009 NFF Gold Medal recipient and NIKE co-founder Phil Knight will serve as guest coaches for Ohio State's spring game on April 15.

2016 NFF Leadership Hall of Fame inductee and Arizona Cardinals president Michael Bidwill donated $10,000 to help fund the NFF Tom Lombardo/St. Louis Chapter's annual scholar-athlete banquet, which is scheduled for May 7.

NFF Program Updates

The NFF Scholar-Athlete of the Day, presented by Fidelity Investments, is a daily segment honoring the semifinalists for the 2016  William V. Campbell Trophy, presented by Fidelity Investments. Today's honoree is Colorado School of Mines center  Richie Rice, who graduated in December 2016 with a 3.89 GPA in petroleum engineering.
Over The Middle
Because of the Greater Houston Senior Football Showcase, Carrington Thompson was able to continue his education and football career at Northwood (Mich.) before transferring to Western Michigan. Now he is a 2017 NFL Draft prospect.

The NFF Wyoming Chapter held its 23rd annual scholar-athlete awards banquet March 18 on the University of Wyoming campus. Wyoming Head Football Coach Craig Bohl and former Wyoming and NFL offensive tackle Adam Goldberg were the guest speakers. The chapter honored 16 scholar-athletes and distributed $21,600 in scholarships.

The NFF Tom Lombardo/St. Louis Chapter will host its monthly luncheon on March 29 at Lombardo's restaurant. The guest speaker will be  Mel Tjeerdsma, the former head football coach and current athletics director at Northwest Missouri State.

The NFF San Fernando Valley (Calif.) Chapter will hold its scholar-athlete banquet March 30 at Odyssey in Granada Hills, Calif.

The NFF Casey-O'Brien/New Haven (Conn.) Chapter will hold its 57th annual scholar-athlete banquet March 31 at Fantasia in North Haven, Conn. The chapter will honor 27 scholar-athletes among its honorees.

The NFF Jack Grinold/Eastern Massachusetts Chapter will host its annual Coaches Clinic at Boston College on April 1. The event is open to all high school coaches in Massachusetts. Speakers at the clinic will include Trinity (Conn.) defensive coordinator Lewis Acquarulo, Boston College head coach Steve Addazio, Boston College athletics director Brad BatesTufts (Mass.) head coach Jay Civetti, Boston College offensive line coach Justin Frye, Harvard head coach Tim Murphy, Dartmouth defensive backs coach Danny O'Dea and Boston College defensive line coach Paul Pasqualoni. The NFF Gridiron Club of Dallas Chapter will hold its 9th annual awards banquet on April 2 at the Marriott Quorum in Dallas, Texas. NFF President & CEO Steve Hatchell will receive the Distinguished Texan Award, the chapter's highest honor, and a number of other major awards will be presented, including the Outstanding Contribution to Amateur Football Award to Dallas businessman and former State Fair of Texas Chairman Pete Schenkel. The chapter will also honor seven collegiate and 81 high school scholar-athletes.

The NFF Schuylkill/Pottsville (Pa.) Chapter will host its scholar-athlete banquet April 2 at Hillcrest Hall in Minersville, Pa.

The NFF Philadelphia Chapter's scholar-athlete banquet will take place April 3 at the Connelly Center on the campus of Villanova University. 

The NFF East Tennessee Chapter will hold its scholar-athlete awards brunch April 22 at The Foundry in Knoxville, Tenn., before Tennessee's spring game. Former Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer will receive the 2017 Neyland Trophy while longtime North Carolina play-by-play announcer and 2011 NFF Chris Schenkel Award recipient Woody Durham will receive the Lindsey Nelson Broadcasting Award.

Since 1959, the National Football Foundation has annually recognized the best and brightest college players, presenting them with prestigious NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards, presented by Fidelity Investments.
