Chamber Honors Community Stars at 66th Annual Goleta's Finest Community Awards Ceremony

On Friday, November 20th, the Goleta Valley Chamber of Commerce honored   Goleta's Finest with a celebration of our community.

Hundreds of people gathered at Bacara Resort & Spa for the 66th annual Goleta's Finest Community Awards Ceremony, a tribute to the many individuals, organizations and companies that contribute to the strength and vibrancy of the community.
 
The location was particularly fitting, as Kathleen Cochran, Bacara's former general manager, was recognized as Woman of the Year.  Man of the Year honors went to Angel Martinez , CEO and board chairman of Deckers Brands .
 
Other honorees included: Noozhawk, recognized for their exponential growth in the media industry as Small Business of the Year; Kyle's Kitchen, which serves up burgers and salads while giving back to special needs non-profits as Innovative Business of the Year; Jason Weaver of DELux LED, for pioneering the use of energy-efficient lightbulbs for businesses as Entrepreneur of the Year; Frank Koroshec, a teacher at San Marcos High School, as Educator of the Year; Margaret Miller, a senior at Dos Pueblos High School, as Student of the Year; Devereux, which serves children and adults with special needs, as Large Nonprofit of the Year; Hugs for Cubs, a Santa Barbara Foresters-associated nonprofit organization that supports children fighting cancer, as Small Nonprofit of the Year; Ed de la Torre, who has fought a long battle to preserve Goleta Beach Park, as Volunteer of the Year; Orbital ATK, which develops and manufactures space technology, as Large Business of the Year; and Brent Daniels, Public Servant of the Year. Click here for the full story....

Ready, Respond, Recover: Preparing Your Business for El Nino
The Goleta Chamber of Commerce is working to help residents and businesses prepare for the upcoming El Nino.

A Roundtable focussed on the upcoming El Nino was held on November 18th. The Chamber has created a page on our website with important links, such as the Goleta Flood Map so businesses can see if they are in a flash flood area.  

The Chamber will be updating the site consistently and will be sending any important updates via email.  Don't wait until the storm hits to get prepared. 
Hollister Village Offers Resort Style Living in the Goodland

Hollister Village, the new mixed-use facility across from Camino Real Marketplace has opened their doors. Supporters and City officials gathered around the resort-style pool last week to celebrate the opening of the residential units. Many of the apartments are already being occupied and the retail portion is not far behind.

When complete, Hollister Village will have  266 residential units along with stores and restaurants on the land north of Hollister Avenue between Glen Annie Road and Santa Felicia Drive.  The first store set to open is Smart and Final Extra, scheduled to open this December. Hollister Village provides much needed workforce housing in the heart of Goleta.
