The Congress of the United States issued the MCA our charter in 1950. This charter continues to guide us as an organization today.

The Congress mandated our purposes to be -

1 - to safeguard and strengthen the forces of faith and morality of our Nation;
2 - to perpetuate and deepen the bonds of understanding and friendship of our military service;
3 - to preserve our spiritual influence and interest in all members and veterans of the armed forces;
4 - to uphold the Constitution of the United Sates;
and 5 - to promote justice, peace, and good will.

One means by which we accomplish these purposes is to award scholarships to those seeking to become military chaplains. By encouraging and enabling new chaplains we help to safeguard and strengthen the forces of faith and morality in our nation and deepen the bonds of understanding within our military service.

MCA scholarships are in the amount of $1,000.00 each and are provided to the educational institution the candidate attends. An individual may receive successive awards from one year to the next as he or she prepares for the chaplaincy.

To be eligible, an prospective chaplain must be enrolled in a degree program acceptable to the military to qualify as a chaplain and be endorsed by a DOD recognized endorser for the military chaplaincy.

We can award up to five scholarships this year - one of which is funded by the generous donation made by Women United in Ministry to support women desiring to serve as chaplains in our nations armed forces.

Applications for 2017-2018 scholarships are now being accepted. You may access an application here or one can be mailed by requesting from the MCA office at [email protected]. All necessary information is contained on the application form.

Please get the word out to any CCPOs or others currently matriculating and desirous of becoming a chaplain for life. Thanks for helping to build our future.

PBS Documentary Military Chaplains

Blink Films is currently producing a new documentary season for PBS. The 6-episode series is called We'll Meet Again and will follow individuals on a journey to be reunited with someone from their past who they have lost touch with. The film maker will feature stories of ordinary people who have been separated or brought together by events of historic significance - family members separated by conflict and migration, armed forces who lost touch after their service or strangers brought together during emergencies, political movements and shared causes.

In one episode of the series Blink would like to celebrate men and women serving in the U.S. Armed forces in the Persian Gulf War. To offer an alternative perspective on this moment in history they are especially keen to find a Chaplain who would like to be reunited with someone that they served with or someone that they helped in the field. Blink is also looking for military personnel who may like to be reunited with a chaplain from their time in the Gulf.

If you would like to participate or know someone who would, please contact Alice Smith at [email protected]

The entries are about battlefield heroes, people who survived the war to achieve major accomplishments, the well-known like President John Kennedy, the unknown soldiers, and the lesser-known who still led fascinating lives.
