Plantasia 2017 Free Workshop Schedule

Throughout the day, in our main tent at Plantasia, we will have a lineup of informative garden workshops from experts around the Lowcountry. These workshops are free to attend and are geared toward inspiring and assisting you in your garden planning mostly utilizing plants and materials you can buy on site that day.

9am - 10am: Native Plants: How To Use Them In Your Home Landscape
Jeff Jackson - Owner: Roots and Shoots Native Plants
Local landscape designer and environmental consultant Jeff Jackson will share his expertise on native plants and their use in the home garden. From everything to functional plants to aesthetics and nature attractors, Jeff will show you how to put these great plants to work!

10:30am - 11:30am: Patio Container Water Design
Nancy Newman-Limata - Master Gardener/Owner Charleston Garden Design
Learn to create a patio container water garden feature with any container that holds water - Nancy will show you how to select the perfect water plants, the importance of aeration, fertilization and perhaps even fish. Just add pump, water and plants and you're ready to go!

Noon - 1:00pm: A Bee's Role in the Garden
Cheri Ward - Bee Keeper/Owner Blue Pearl Farms
Why we need bees in our gardens? Simple ways you can make a difference in the health of your garden with the help of our buzzy friends.

1:30pm - 2:30pm: Japanese Floral Arranging
Kathy Huang - Ikebana design expert
Kathy will demonstrate the Rikka style of Japanese floral arrangement with an emphasis on the aesthetics and techniques for construction of a Rikka arrangement. Rikka Shofutai is the original and most formal style of Ikebana floral design dating back to over 500 years ago.

Plantasia Eve Party

With live music from rising Charleston music stars The Hadleys, catering from our friends at Salthouse and the debut of our new Plantasia cocktail ' Raspberry Beret' from our friends at Grain and Barrel, our Plantasia Eve Party on April 7  guarantees to be the ultimate celebration for Lowcountry gardening this spring. 

Once again we will host our 3rd annual Iron Trowel Design Competition pitting some of Charleston's most celebrated garden artists in a race against the clock to design the perfect spring container. Also on hand will be an eclectic lineup of new garden furniture and decor items in our silent auction featuring pieces from our friends at Charleston Gardens

Our Real Yard Sale and Members Favorites will also be featured along with a wide variety vendors and the return of our Gold Medal Plants collection for 2017 which will be announced at the party...but most importantly, by attending the Plantasia Eve Party you will be getting first access to the thousands of beautiful plants that will be on display and ready for you to take home that evening.

Bring us your garden goodies

We are now collecting donated items for our Plantasia Real Yard Sale. Have an abundance of pots, planters or other unique or slightly used garden items? Not sure what to do with those old garden tools? Before you discard, consider donating them to CHS and help us raise money through our annual Real Yard Sale during Plantasia and Plantasia Eve.

All garden related items are welcome as long as they are functional and clean. We do not accept holiday decorations, regular household items not related to gardening or indoor furniture.
