Student Spotlight
Meet Emma!

Emma is a 6 year old Kindergartner at Ohio Valley Voices.  Emma was diagnosed with a hearing loss at age 4 years old, after a sudden decline in her hearing.  Emma's family quickly enrolled her in the preschool program at Ohio Valley Voices, where she  made tremendous progress in just two short years!  Emma is a very outgoing student who loves to learn, spend time with her friends and family and has a delightful sense of humor!  Next year, Emma will be mainstreaming into 1st grade at Goshen Local Schools.  Emma's parents, Niki and Michael say, "Our family is so grateful to have OVV in our lives. We are certain that Emma has benefited tremendously from her experiences there."  We are excited to see the great successes that we know are in store for Emma.

Landmark Supreme Court Ruling in Favor of a Special Education Student Passed March 22, 2017

School districts must give students with disabilities the chance to make meaningful, "appropriately ambitious" progress, the Supreme Court said Wednesday in an 8-0 ruling.

The decision in Endrew F. v. Douglas County School District centered on a child with autism and attention deficit disorder whose parents removed him from public school in fifth grade. He went on to make better progress in a private school. His parents argued that the individualized education plan provided by the public school was inadequate, and they sued to compel the school district to pay his private school tuition. The Supreme Court today sided with the family, overturning a lower court ruling in the school district's favor.

Ohio Valley Voices' Staff Members Present in Chicago

Members of Ohio Valley Voices administrative staff attended the Opening Minds Early Childhood Education National Conference in Chicago this past January, to share best practices in educating children with hearing loss.

Carey Ratliff, Program Director and Molly Weber, Director of Clinical Services discussed strategies to improve auditory skill development during "The Question Isn't Can You Hear Me?" (Left Picture).

Meredith Craven, Director of Special Services and Erin Lipps, Pediatric Audiologist discussed educational and audiological needs of children with hearing loss who are educated in a typical mainstream setting during "Navigating the Mainstream" (Right Picture).

We are proud of our staff acting as leaders in the field of listening and spoken language.
