SEPTEMBER 23, 2017 - YONKERS, NY
The Portuguese-American Leadership Council of the United States (PALCUS) is announcing that their annual Leadership Awards Gala will take place on Saturday, September 23, 2017. The 2017 Gala will be held in Yonkers, NY at the Portuguese American Community Center (PACC Yonkers), located at 117 Park Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10703.
PACC Yonkers was founded in 1930 and provides a multitude of options for those who want to maintain links to their Portuguese heritage. Activities and initiatives include a soccer team, a cylcling team, a youth group, a Rancho (ethnic dance) and most notably, a Portuguese school (João de Deus) which has been active since the 1930s. Currently this diverse organization is led by President David Oliveira.
"We are excited to bring the Gala back to the New York area this year. The New York community has grown in diverse ways, demonstrating evolution of its older and more recognized organizations and associations as well as elevating individuals that have become recognized and trusted leaders of the community. This community has an established history and works hard to maintain relevance and keep the community involved thorough its constant efforts to involve the younger generations." said PALCUS Vice-Chair, Katherine Soares (New York). Soares will also serve as the 2017 Gala Chair.
The PALCUS Leadership Awards Gala recognizes outstanding community leadership on a national level by awarding individuals and businesses with leadership awards in various categories of achievement. Scholarships are also awarded annually to graduate and undergraduate level students of Portuguese descent.

About PALCUS
PALCUS is a non-partisan, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization incorporated under the laws of the District of Columbia. It was founded in 1991 by a group of successful, forward-thinking Portuguese-Americans with the purpose of providing a singular national voice that would advocate for the interests of Portuguese-Americans in the United States. At the center of their vision was to establish and maintain channels of communication between the government of the Republic of Portugal, via the Embassy of Portugal to Washington, D.C., and the U.S. congressional delegation representing Portuguese-American communities.
Now in its 26th year, PALCUS has been true to its founding principles and much more. Throughout its history, the organization has evolved and matured, guided by a dedicated all-volunteer board of directors representing Portuguese-American communities throughout the United States. PALCUS has worked consistently and tirelessly, weathering changes in political and economic climates, to create and expand its programs. Its activities and events are mission-driven to address the community's needs in the strategic areas of government affairs, international affairs, educational opportunities, Portuguese language and culture, community outreach and recognition of our community's success.
PALCUS is a member-supported organization that depends on membership dues for operational and program support. Nevertheless, membership is not required in order to benefit from our programs and advocacy initiatives. We are committed to serving all Portuguese-Americans in the United States who would benefit from our help.
