From movies like Beach Blanket Bingo to Beach Bar to Cocktail, one of the most time-honored movie traditions about "getting away from it all and doing something I love," includes opening a bar in a beach town.

While having experience in any business venture prepares you for opening in a new market, the excitement of sharing your vision in a new country brings an extra set of adjustments and even more excitement!

Meet Igor and Ana Bekaert, daughter Tish and Matt Holmes: the energy behind the newest, hottest live rock bar in La Col. Emiliano Zapata.  Hometown: Belgium. Relocated from London, the family took over a favorite neighborhood bar in the colonia and quickly made it into their own.

"El Soñador (dreamer in Spanish) opened in October 2016 and has quickly assumed a solid space in the live rock music and night-time entertainment scene in one of the liveliest blocks in the colonia.

"I've realized that i have been working in bars and kitchens for 30 years this year....I'm a very lucky man to have been able to make my hobby into a way of life," Igor recently shared on his Facebook page.

"When we decided to retire and saw what we were able to do with our investment - buy an amazing home AND open a business, we decided to take the step. We love Puerto Vallarta.  The people.  The pace.  We could not be happier with our decision."

So in addition to the mixology and live rock we now enjoy at El Soñador, we can look forward to some kitchen delights ahead from this pair of dreamers that came to Puerto Vallarta to retire and ended up building another dream.

El Soñador reigns as one of the most recent examples of the entrepreneurial spirit that inspires and encourages people in Puerto Vallarta.  Stop by and have a beer, listen to some music, shoot a game of pool, and think about how to start your own plan.

MEXICO THE BEST PLACE TO RETIRE IN 2017

And the winner is.......MEXICO!

We could have told you that!  According to the experts at International Living (IL), there's a new best country in the world for retirement.

In its Annual Global Retirement Index, Mexico - one of the most popular countries among U.S. expats - has edged out last year's No. 1, Panama.

To compile its 2017 ranking, International Living's editors, correspondents, contributors and contacts around the world crunched data and personal insights for 10 categories - from 'Cost of Living' to 'Visas & Residence' to 'Fitting In' to 'Climate.'

Cost of living remains a top retirement concern for Americans, according to a recent Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies survey of U.S. workers. Respondents told Transamerica that an affordable cost of living was their most important criteria for where to live in retirement.
