A Lenten Challenge from the Dean
The tradition of giving something up for Lent is widely observed, but more important than the question of what to give up or take on is the intentionality behind it. The practice of some discipline is a way to train our undisciplined minds to focus on the lavish love that our God offers us, a love that was proven beyond all doubt on the first Good Friday. It's customary for clergy to invite their people to observe a holy Lent, and so the Dean invites you into a place of intentionality this Lent by offering you a gentle challenge. Here are three ways you can make a commitment to greater intentionality for the six weeks of Lent:
  • Make regular worship your top priority.
  • Try on the Biblical tithe for size: Make a commitment to give 10% off the top of your income to the church (it's not as unheard-of as you might imagine!). Reflect on the giving; think and pray about how it makes you feel.
  • Sign up for a formation activity, such as the interfaith book study and small group series. Reach across faith lines to befriend people you might not otherwise meet. Stretch your assumptions and nourish your faith by learning with others. If you are new to the church, join the Inquirers class and explore the meaning of baptism. (Learn more about these opportunities below.)
Ash Wednesday Was a Success!
Thank you to everyone who participated in giving out ashes and prayers on Ash Wednesday. And a special thank you to Pat Kreder for all her work that made this day a success! We had 30 "ashers" around town, and we administered ashes and/or prayed with over 1000 people!

Our New Audio-Visual System is Working!
Many thanks to Todd Hurrell for working with our vendor to install the new AV system, made possible by a generous donor. We are fine-tuning the system to make it work for us and eventually live-stream video to our web site! Also, we have a new hearing-assisted listening system available-please ask for a device from an usher if you would like one!

Showers of Blessings Date Changed this Month
The March showers event has been moved to March 18 (the 3rd Saturday) to avoid the St. Patrick's  Parade.

Thank you For Your Contributions to Episcopal Relief and Development
Thank you for supporting ERD's life-giving work through prayers and offerings last week. Together, we provided funds to give small loans to start businesses, distribute mosquito nets for malaria prevention, build sustainable clean water systems, promote effective farming techniques, and more.

Easter Flower Donations Welcome
Beginning in Lent, we do not have flowers in the Cathedral. However, donations can be given in honor or memory-or just for giving-for Easter flowers. Look for the Easter donation envelopes in the pews. Or give online: www.stpaulcathedral.org/giving/. Click "Donate Now" and choose "other" on the form. Questions? Email Molly, [email protected]
