Big Labor not slowing down!
PLA a ctivity across the state and across all types of projects remains brisk. Here are the latest in the battle  to  keep open competition across California.

Educational
College of Marin:  On February 21st CFEC's Eric Christen and ABC of Northern California's Nicole Goehring addressed the College of Marin Board of Trustees at their  "PLA Study Session" .

The College, which approved a PLA on 4 projects under its last bond (3 other projects were built PLA-free), is considering a PLA again for a $249 million bond that was approved in June of 2016. At the study session PLA p roponents and opponents spoke for 15 minutes each. The Board is scheduled to take the issue of a PLA up at their next meeting in March so stay tuned.

In the meantime we are encouraging people to contact the board about their thoughts on PLAs. You can email them at:

State Center Community College:
This Fresno based District will be holding a "PLA Study Session" on March 17th at 2:00pm. In June of 2016 voters in this District approved the
$485 million Measure C  (with no hint of a PLA of course). We are looking for a strong show of force at this meeting and ask that you contact CFEC if you are able to attend.

In the meantime we encourage you to contact the Board of Trustees about your views on PLAs. They can be reached through the  executive secretary to the board of trustees at:

High Speed Rail
The California High Speed Rail  debacle continues to roll down the tracks, however ineptly.  As the Los Angeles Times has reported  the project is massively over budget (over 50%) according to a confidential federal government report. This will surprise no one who has followed this catastrophe from the start. Following this and in keeping with their steadfast opposition to this boondoggle,  Congressional Republicans have formally asked the Trump Administration to put a freeze on any federal monies for the project.

Keep Fresno PLA-Free!

As you are probably aware, the  Fresno Region has been almost completely PLA-free for 20 years . This is due in large part to the  active involvement of local contractors  like you who have worked hard to protect their right to bid and work on taxpayer funded projects. But now there are new threats emerging and we need your help to see this doesn't get out of hand.

We will be updating those interested in fighting the growing PLA threat on the strategy behind this effort, as well as what can be expected to occur at the afternoon's PLA work session at the college.
