Los Angeles River School Joins ITEP Internship Program
For the first time, Los Angeles River School (LARS) will participate in ITEP's Internship Program. The new ITEP-supported school will connect more than 10 students to local internship employers this summer.

ITEP's newest interns have demonstrated great enthusiasm for the program. In response to the community service aspect of the internship program, prospective interns formed an after-school club focused on building awareness for the school's farm and connecting agriculture to community. Stay tuned for more stories from ITEP students at LARS!

ITEP Industry Coaching Program in Full Swing
Industry coaches visited San Pedro High School to give ITEP students an inside look into job functions at their companies. Mentors spent the afternoon highlighting several positions in their workplaces and the education and skills necessary to excel in those roles.

Over at Phineas Banning High School, ITEP students worked with coaches to create vision boards illustrating their short and long-term goals. In the creation process, the groups also discussed the next steps needed toward achieving their goals.

Reviving Education, Redeveloping a Community
ITEP freshmen from Manual Arts High School are working on a project-based learning activity that  centers around the use of abandoned and/or under-utilized space in their neighborhood.

According to Edutopia, "PBL is the act of learning through identifying a real-world problem and developing its solution. Kids show what they learn as they journey through the unit, not just at the end."  As part of this project, ITEP students  will showcase solutions that outline the best use of the spaces explored.

Former City of L.A. Councilman (1st District) and Chair of the City Council's Planning and Land Use Management Committee, Ed Reyes, officially launched the project at Exposition Park with an overview of land use and urban planning to more than 100 students.

A special thank you to Ed Reyes, City of Los Angeles, and all supporting teachers and faculty at Manual Arts High School.
