Our office has received many concerns regarding issues of classroom safety. The CBA contains language that explains your rights regarding student discipline. Article IV, Section 4.5.c states that you have the right to remove a disruptive student from your classroom. The student may not return for the rest of the day unless the principal or designee has conferred with you first. The student may be removed for up to two days.
In addition, any employee required to accept a student into a class who has committed physical or verbal assault has the authority to impose emergency removal and recommend an appropriate sanction which may include suspension or expulsion.
You must enforce your rights afforded to you in the contract, or you will lose those rights. It is important for all of our students and employees to feel safe while at school.

Alan Sutliff started this month in the Kent office as our UniServ Rep. He has most recently been working with the WEA unions in Renton, and has been a UniServ Rep since 2009. If you think you may know Alan already, it is possible since he is an active community member, a parent of two Kent-Meridian High School students, a Thunderbirds hockey fan and billet parent of two players, and a former middle school teacher in Highline. Alan is looking forward to working in his community to support the educators of KEA. His contact information is on the
