US Investment in Global Health R&D Saves Lives, Boosts Economy
New report examines opportunities to strengthen US government role in developing global health technologies
Reversing the decline in US investment in developing vaccines, drugs, and other tools to combat neglected diseases and conditions and advancing policy solutions to build new partnerships, leverage expertise, and encourage investment from all sectors, will save lives and increase economic opportunity in low- and middle-income countries, while also creating jobs and boosting the U.S. economy, says a team from the Duke-Margolis Center for Health Policy, Duke Global Health Institute (DGHI) and DGHI’s Center for Policy Impact in Global Health.

Reimbursement for Advanced Care Planning Discussions will Improve Quality of Life
How do we ensure that patients have a say in the kind of care they receive at the end of life? That question was put to a test in 2015 when the Center for Medicare and Medicaid services proposed a rule reimbursing physicians for advanced care planning discussions with patients.
A study published in BMJ Supportive and Palliative Care by Don Taylor, Nrupen Bhavsar, Sara Constand and Matthew Harker, all of Duke University, examined public comments on the proposed rule to provide a baseline assessment of public perception of advanced care planning.
