Today's Reflection:
Billy Hufnagle, JPII '15

Today's gospel shows us why Lent is set aside for preparation, sacrifice, and fasting.

Jesus notes that we should not fast and be mournful as long as we have God with us. Instead we should rejoice. But soon, when Christ is gone, that is exactly what we are called to do.

It is during Lent, especially on Fridays, that we remember the suffering of our Lord. It is a time to mourn and to fast, because we are preparing for that time when Jesus would leave the world, to save us eternally.

As the Gospel states, "The bridegroom is taken away", and, in his absence, we are called to fast.
