As a meditation when I feel overwhelmed by sorrow, expectations or a general feeling of negativity, I know I cannot attract joy. In fact, even if something happens that would make me smile and feel overwhelming gratitude, I may be irritated with it and complain about it. I believe we all experience this at one time or another.
Here is what I do to clear out these feeling that keep us blocked and may help you:
I practice a breathing technique and meditation (don't worry it's super easy!) to clear the feelings I don't want to carry around and which I know block good feelings from entering. I like to do my meditation and releasing practice outside. I feel that being connected to the ground and earth and directly to the heavens removes all blocks from my intentions being put out into the universe. I feel one with God when I am in prayer or meditating outside. It just feels more effective to me.
It is simple really, what I do to release negative feelings. After finding a quiet space, I sit cross legged and palms up on my knees. I quiet my mind and focus on being aware of all that is and all that I Am, I begin my breathing.
I close my eyes so I can visualize the process. I inhale deep breaths all the way down to my belly. As I inhale I visualize colors like pink and green for love and healing filling up my vessel. As I exhale I visualize the color black exiting my body removing what ill feelings are within me.
As I inhale and exhale over and over the colors (and you can pick what feels right to you) replace what is inside and heal what is hurting inside of me. The black that I exhale becomes lighter and lighter and I repeat until my exhale becomes white or clear in color.
If you find it easier to say a mantra, here is a suggestion which you can make your own: On inhale, say in your mind "I Am Peace, Harmony, Health and Joy." On exhale say in your mind "I release what does not serve me for my greatest good."
Between the visualization and meditation, I feel an emotional and physical cleanse take place. In a short period of time, anywhere from 10 minutes to a half hour, this completely shifts how I feel and how the rest of my day goes. It's very powerful and I can release something I may have been carrying for a long time.
Sometimes, I even discover what it was that had me feeling so undone and allows me to resolve the problem. This practice allows me to get over it as it is totally released. One of the greatest benefits I find to this practice is that I can identify the circumstances should they show up again and I can navigate through them rather than let them over take me.
It's easy, yet powerful. Just have the patience with yourself to sit with your yucky feelings, face them and cleanse them out.
