The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District has awarded a $46M contract to Ames Construction, Inc., of Burnsville, MN. The contract is to complete the inlet control structure to the diversion channel. A groundbreaking ceremony is being planned for the spring of 2017.

The FM Diversion Authority also voted to release a Request for Proposals to the four teams that were short listed to build the channel portion of the Project. RFP responses are due in the Fall of 2017.

The Diversion Authority has been working with several property owners after they requested to have their property entered in the early acquisition process. The process is similar to the standard property acquisition process, it simply allows property owners to finalize the result sooner than later.

The early acquisition process is open to impacted property owners and includes an evaluation to determine if the property owner is eligible for relocation benefits like relocation assistance or finding replacement housing.

For more information about property acquisition or the early acquisition process, email Joe.Herbst@ae2s.com, or call (701)364-9111.

With construction beginning this spring, the Diversion Project is anticipated to be operational by 2024. There will be greater cost and certainty about the schedule once a P3 firm is under contract for construction of the Diversion Channel. The Corps-led construction efforts along the Southern Embankment will be dependent on the amount, and timing, of federal appropriations through the Corps’ Work Plan and other funding sources.
